That the price for books online at Barnes & Noble and Books a million is not the in store price. I made the stupid mistake of checking the web to see if they carried a book which they did, drove to the store to buy it only to find out it is $20.00 more in the store. They will not honor the web price or match a competitor's price. They will let you pay for it in the store, they will order it for you online and they will have it shipped to your home. I don't really understand the concept because the book is there in the store.

$54.99 in the store and $34.64 online with free shipping.

I've seen this with several brick & mortar shops. Heck I needed a pneumatic stapler to do a little molding work around the house. Looked online at Harbor Freight for a cheapy, and found one for 20 bucks. In store, it was 30 HF honored their web price though, just showed it to 'em on my phone and they changed it right at the register.

Lots of places have this arrangement, Fry's is another. The store and the online have no business relation, usually for tax purposes.

Yup - thank you to the creators of the I phone... I price check EVERYTHING now.

We were at Sam's... and I was price checking a case of diapers. Those dang things are $40/box. I'll be glad when she's potty trained... *sheesh*

We were at Lowes, and Brad saw a electrical wiring book - it was priced at $29 or something... looked it up online... $18 through Amazon...

I didn't realize that the books were priced higher in store though... that kind of sucks.

Makes me like Katy Budget Books more... they are always at least 10% off.

Update.
Just drove 20 mins 1-way to Barnes and Noble during lunch so I could pay for my book in cash and have it shipped to my home. I get there and the manager said no dice. She said I will have to pay in store price minus my member discount so it would be $50 not the $34 online price. I showed her my phone where I called first and was told if I came in and purchased it and had it shipped to my home I could get it for the online price. She said sorry that is the best she can do. I didn't buy it for principle reasons. I can take my money elsewhere.

Yrs ago in photo school there was a discount store near the school that sold Kodak 8x10 BW paper for $9.99 a pk, the identical store on the other side of town, but closest to my house, sold it for $10.99 a pk. They wouldn't price match (it was b4 all that stuff became de rigor) and was told it was because of "the market they competed in". I can only assume the cyber market is different than the brick and mortar market.

Typically when I an unhappy with a "bricks and mortar" store's prices on a specific item, I object by simply taking it upon myself to apply a 100% discount and helping myself to the the item in question and sprinting out the front door. I've only been caught a few dozen times this month :)
