Understanding Directions.... - 08-11-2009, 01:46 PM

Okay... somebody delete this if it offends someone...

I was checking out the web forum - and clicked on a link.... and clicked on a blog.. Here's the blog: http://www.bludomain.com/blog.cfm

Now... if you scroll down - you'll see a wicked cool photo... sort of Alice in Wonderland style...

The information under the photo says this:
The photograph above was one of our FAVORITES however they were disqualified because they forgot their visible sign that read "Happy Birthday Blu!"

Is it just me? Isn't there a very appropriate - theme related sign that says: "A very Very un-unhappy birthday Blu"

I think they should have won darn it...

In this case, you gotta follow the rules. Some people have a hard time with that concept in school, and it carries over right into adulthood.

If they just change the word Merry to Happy -- they will technically fall within the rules because the sign will then include the words "happy" un"birthday" and "blu"

It does not say that the words have to be in exactly that order -- they just need to fix the photo to say happy instead of Merry and they will recieve a $1000. I would make the change

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

First thing: I absolutely love the picture.

Do I think it should have won? No.

The photo was very creative and they obviously put a lot of work into setting the scene. I fully understand the reference to Lewis Carol's work (maybe the judge isn't famiiar with it?) but it still didn't meet the criteria for winning.

Personally I would be very upset if I entered a contest with a $1,000 prize, followed the rules exactly, and lost to someone who decided the rules didn't apply to him/her.

That said I do think the reason given was stupid. To say they forgot their sign would be like a judge refusing an un-registered dog into a AKC sponsored show on the basis that it's not a dog rather than for the lack required proof of pedigree. The reason should have been given as "We're sorry but your sign didn't meet the requirements stated in the rules" or something like that.

The blog said that if they will resubmit that Blue will give away another $1000 gift certficate. I think that is pretty fair. They didn't completely disqualify them. But...I guess they do have to follow the rules exactly otherwise all of those other entries would have been pretty ticked.

I think it should have won. It's a creativity contest, and putting anything on that sign other than they did wouldn't have made sense within the context of the photo.
