What I don't understand about this deal is the status of Salty and Teagarden. It would seem that one of them has to go when Salty gets healthy again.
Go Rangers!

Teagarden is fine he will continue to be the starter and Salty is probably done for the year Pudge is a GREAT pickup for about 375K

Salty is probably toast for the year.. maybe longer. That injury is rough and can sideline people for a year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thoracic_outlet_syndrome Teagarden is still very young, but will probably be first string with Pudge as a more-than-backup. Pudge probably also has a future as a DH for the Rangers long after he's able to catch.

The guy the Rangers brought up and played at catcher last night did pretty well, too...

The team had planned to carry three catchers when the roster expands shortly.

Be gentle with him, Rangers fans! You're not getting back the same player who left five years ago. Many moons have passed since he was last in your uniform, and he is quite a bit longer in tooth. Spent many evenings hoping he would get the clutch hit that the Astros needed to save the day, but it didn't come as often as in the past. (Of course, the Astros have a whole bench-full of people who also haven't gotten the clutch hit!!!) Having said that, he's still good catcher who calls a good game and handles a pitching staff as well as anything, and those are my criteria for a catcher, no matter what his age.

Lonnie, July 31 was the non-waiver trade deadline. In August, the teams may still make trades, but the players have to clear waivers first. Other teams might want to claim a player off waivers, either because they want him too, or because they want to keep him from being traded to another contender that might be challenging them for a place in the post-season.
