Be gentle with him, Rangers fans! You're not getting back the same player who left five years ago. Many moons have passed since he was last in your uniform, and he is quite a bit longer in tooth. Spent many evenings hoping he would get the clutch hit that the Astros needed to save the day, but it didn't come as often as in the past. (Of course, the Astros have a whole bench-full of people who also haven't gotten the clutch hit!!!) Having said that, he's still good catcher who calls a good game and handles a pitching staff as well as anything, and those are my criteria for a catcher, no matter what his age.
Lonnie, July 31 was the non-waiver trade deadline. In August, the teams may still make trades, but the players have to clear waivers first. Other teams might want to claim a player off waivers, either because they want him too, or because they want to keep him from being traded to another contender that might be challenging them for a place in the post-season.
