does it ever stop??? - 08-21-2009, 06:35 PM

OK, so I recently bought a 24-70 f2.8, fabulous piece of glass by the way, and now I find myself wanting more. It's not a another lens though. I find myself coveting the Nikon D700. If I choose to buy this, what will be next?!? Will it never end? Will I ever satiate my thirst for bigger and better?

Dan....there is a word I would like you understand....NAS...(Nikon Acquisition Syndrome)...please understand that you can not fight it...there is no cure and you will eventually have too much....But you will still want more....!!! Just come to terms with it and you will be good...if you don't you will forever get upset every-time you buy...

You have found a good group to help you thru your troubled times...

............. ............

Above are all the emotions you go thru with this...!!!!

I'm glad to know that I am not alone, that I have brothers and sisters that share and experience the pain that I know.

Of course it will end, all too soon. Either when you loose your memory or you die! :)

As my wife has been heard to say from time to time: "One upgrade leads to another." It ends the day after your funeral. :)

NAS is a mutation of CAS which of course is Canon Aquisition Syndrome and I have it really bad. "Buy food later....need lens NOW!"

How much better will your pictures be, and how much more money will you make from them if you buy a new camera body or lens? If the answer to either one of those questions is lots, then by all means get out the check book.

At least you have a Nikon, if you had a Canon you could be pushed into all the exotic glass you can adapt by others such as Zeiss Contax, Olympus Zuiko, Leica-R....

It has been my experience that any acquisition syndrome, call it xAS, where you replace the variable "x" with your choice of a first letter descriptor, is incurable.

I shoot multi-brand photo equipment, so for me, it's GAS (gear acquisition syndrome), or perhaps to be more specific PGAS (photo gear AS). For years, I suffered from another GAS (guitar acquisition syndrome), which I have been able to control somewhat by building my own now. And then there's another admitted problem I have: MAS (motorcycle acquisition syndrome: I own seven). And of course, there's BAS (book acquisition syndrome) and VAS (Volvo acquisition syndrome). Fortunately, I don't own an iPod or any MP3 player, or else I'd probably have SAS (song acquisition syndrome) in a really bad way.

It does end when you have enough gear to cover all your typical situations. Or at least it should end then!

I'm happy with what I have until something breaks and I have to replace it.
