Start new job in two weeks! - 08-21-2009, 11:11 PM

Well since coming home from the road I haven't really found any jobs that I like. I was on the road for over a year driving long haul for a company called TMC, check out their web site, they have some really really nice Peterbilt trucks. I enjoyed seeing the country and hauling all the different freight but the pay just feel off about the end of last year and sitting in a truck stop waiting on a load just doesn't pay the bills. Even though it was an adventure living in my truck 14 to 21 days a week it got old being away from my family so much. I was able to take my son with me on some trips but I had to make sure it was only a week long run or that I would be coming back close to home so my wife could pick him up, he couldn't handle being in the truck for more than a week at a time. And beng away from my wife was even worse! Being away from my family, sharing the road with some of the four wheelers who could not drive and dealing with the lot lizards was tough but there is just something about being on the road alone controlling that huge piece of metal that got me hooked. I still plan on driving for a friend who has two rigs in my spare time for the extra money but mainly for the joy of being back on the road.

The new job I got is with the Department of Homeland Defense. I just finished up a crap load of paper work and start my orientation the 7th of September. Being a government job it will have the benefits I've been missing since leaving TMC and as long as we have people who hate America my job should be pretty secure. I just wish they would let me carry a M16 or at least a pistol I can't wait to get started!

Check out the trucking company I was driving for, my old truck number was 90022. I hope the new driver is taking good care of her

I have been trying to come off the road for a long time. I have been back to driving for a little over 2 yrs this time. I grew up in the biz and most of my life has been out there, its hell when you hate the job but do it well. I have spent all but one yr since getting my drivers license in, on, under or around trucks.

Good luck with the new job, enjoy the good stuff you saw on the road and try to forget the bad stuff.

I am sitting in terminal in Lancaster, TX now but have to be back home in San Antonio Monday for CAT scan. If I don't get a little thing cleared up b4 my physical expires end of the month, I won't have to worry about having a job I don't like.

Congratulations. I went to the "Great American Truck Show" (GATS) this weekend. There are some nice looking trucks out there.
