Excellent picks, I had forgotten about the war theme in 'Seven Beauties' and 'Grand Illusion' just has to be on any best war movies.

If you've not see The Battle of Algiers - Criterion Collection excellent background matterial on the DVD.
Yacef Saadi who plays "Djafar" was an FLN bomb maker and operational director for the bombing.

Hiroshima mon amour - Alain Resnais (1959)
Au revoir les enfants - Louis Malle (1987)

This is an excellent film - available here - http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...98016489872474 - seems to be an illegal copy, so check it out and buy the Criterion DVD.

Oh yes, the director's cut of Das Boot is a must see also. Greatest submarine movie ever....

You are all hereby sentenced to live the remainder of your ungrateful lives in...Oklahoma!

THE GREATEST WAR MOVIE OF ALL TIME:

The Alamo. It's Texas and it has John Wayne. What else is there?

OK, so if you want a war movie that will keep you awake at night, Stanley Kubrik's 'Path's of Glory' (1957) will work better than any drug....
