Taking the Windows 7 Leap: Questions? - 08-27-2009, 05:50 PM

Okay - I got a copy of Windows 7 - the last 'beta' version prior to the release in a couple months. I'm STRONGLY considering moving some HD's around, and getting rid of Vista and going with Windows 7.

I think there was a discussion a while back - mainly about Win 7 v. Vista, and XP, etc -

I wanted to see if any of you had started using WIn 7 - have you ran into any conflicts with drivers - issues that makes you have 2nd thoughts, etc?

I'm gonna spend a few hours organizing my info - and cleaning them up - so that when my husband does the Frankenstein computer thing (he's putting our 2 systems together to make me a MEGA system while he's gone - I'm geared to go.

Suggestions? Experience?

What do you think about upgrading?

Have been using "Seven" for a while now, I would not do an upgrade but a clean install if at all possible.

Second, I would wait for the RTM or what is considered the final version of the software. The beta does expire and when it does it will no longer work.

My finger scanner for login on my Tablet of which is my test machine, did not install and the software for my display to rotate my tablet's screen was incompatible as well. Have not checked if new software is out yet.

I have ran my Expression Web software, office, and some other applications without to much trouble.

Donna,

I've been using Win 7 since February and absolutely love it. In the beginning during the early beta versions I ran into some minor issues. Ever since I loaded the RC version, I've been problem free. I liked Win 7 so much, I am using it on both my laptop and main desktop.

I've posted some link from our Win 7 discussions:

I have been using RC 1 Build 7100 with no problems. It loaded a driver for my off brand wi-fi card, my Radeon 4870 (I did load an official Nvidia driver after) all without any problems. It's basically what Vista should have been.

The only real problem I see with Windows 7 is how many different versions there are..

I've used Win 7 since the first beta release, and now have the RTM version installed on 3 PCs. This is an excellent OS and has been hassle free. I've had zero driver issues.

Definitely do a clean install.
