I am curious to the number of Professional photographers (do it for money either full-time or part-time) vs Hobby photographers here (just for fun, not planning to make money at all).

Just do it for fun, although I wish I got paid to do this :)

I wonder if that takes the fun out of it?

I consider myself to be semi-pro. I am pursuing it as a business, but have not been paid yet. I'm still learning various aspects of the profession. But even the pros are still learning, because we never stop, right?

My work is being displayed in several venues right now (the Plaza Theater, the Gallery, and the library), so maybe the 'no money' thing will change soon. Here's hoping! :)

I don't think so, unless you shoot things outside of your passion just to make money. If you love to shoot, and you're shooting what you love, then I think all is good. :)

I think these are very distinct divisions:

Professional photographer: my main source of income is photography and it is my full-time pursuit.

Part-time: Photographer that pursues photography as a business on the side. It isn't your main business, but you make money at it. You have another career that pays the bills.

Amateur/hobbyist: Love photography, but I do it for fun. Maybe someday down the road I will make some money with it, too.

Enthusiast: You love photography, but you don't really enjoy making it.
