Anybody got bifocal contacts? - 08-30-2009, 08:07 PM

I had lasik done nine years ago and am now needing to get bifocals. But I'm kicking my feet all the way to the doctor's office cuz I will NOT go back to glasses (at least not anytime soon)!!!

The next suggestion she made was bifocal contacts. I've got two co-worker friends who swear by them, say they can't even feel them, and that they can always see perfectly near or far.

I'm going to the doctor tomorrow to try them out. Anybody got experience with them and if so, are they all they're cracked up to be? I'm really dreading the ole put-them-in/take-them-out/stuff-in-your-eye/no-rubbing/dry-eyes/contacts and solution routine again. Oh, the joys of aging!

I have similar experience with you, Lasik around 2000 as well. I have been wearing bifocal contact lenses for the last 6 months and have had no problem. It was more of a mental than physical challenge. I did wear contact lenses for many years prior to surgery.

I have them - mono bifocal setup (high and low power). They are just okay. Sometimes I have to take a slow blink to see far distance. Up close is good but I'll take them out to really see well up close. Unfortunately, there isn't anything like having young eyes. Give them a try and see what you think.

I don't know about bifocal contacts but I have multifocal and not the perfect solution but it beats glasses. The aging thing sucks, but the alternative is a worse. I've always had perfect vision up until the last few years. With the contacts I can read a menu with out having to hold it out to the end of the table but my distance vision is degraded with them.

I hate to say it but I do have bifocal contact and progress glasses. I hate my glasses but I can see very well out of my contacts. You may have to try a few until you find the best brand for your eyes.
