Needing to purchase a cell phone for an older gal not to hip on modern technology. Me either really. She likes my I-Phone simply because it has freecell game on it! Easy to use and easy to see texting is a plus, maybe email capable would be nice. I-phone is to expensive. Camera I suppose. What others are good out there but not as expensive?

Look at refurbed models at the AT&T site. I bought my wife a reburbished Blackberry Curve for $5. It has worked flawlessly for 2+ years.

Having just done this on Saturday for my wife (her cellphone with Verizon simply died), she wanted to upgrade to one with data/internet access. There are really three options out there - Blackberry, Palm Pre and the iPhone.

I use a Crackberry at work, so I'm familiar with it's strengths/weaknesses. We looked at the Blackberry Storm, which she had problems with the touch-screen keypad. Also, the regular keypad for the BB Tour didn't work too well for her either. Add into that the Blackberry software (how can I put this - it sucks).

We didn't look at the Palm Pre, mostly because it's offered by Sprint only (and I have concerns over Palm's longevity).

We opted for the iPhone primarily because it's easy to use and lots of features. Love it or hate it, iTunes is pretty simple to use, and works nicely on the iPhone.

If I had my choice, I'd get an iPhone too (but...since my work pays for my Blackberry, I'm not going to complain - free is good).

I understand you can get a refurbished iPhone for $50 at the AT&T stores.

I guess it kinda depends on what carrier you have. I just got a new enV Touch because I like to play soccer with cell phones and my phones usually lose that game. I was afraid I wouldn't like it as much as my enV, but it has full HTML browsing, a camera that's decent (not as good as my first enV, which even had zoom), a full QWERTY keyboard inside and the touchscreen on the outside...I like it a lot and it was on sale. I have Verizon. I'm not too hip to all that "buy an unlocked phone" stuff, so I didn't know if I could get an iPhone and have it work - that's the only reason I didn't go for it.
