I Love Junkyards... - 09-02-2009, 08:29 AM

I live in Rosenberg. I'm just getting started in HDR photography. I found a nice little junkyard on Hwy 36 just past Pleak but not quite in Needville which I enjoyed. Here are a few shots:

Any other junkyards that you know of around Rosenberg/Houston?

Thanks,

Mr.Shneeblie

There's one on the west side of Rosenberg off of 90-A, right before you get to the spit off for 36 to go north if you're headed west. It's called Lane's - been there forever, and the guy who was there a few years ago was really cool.
1401 Ave H, 77471

(oh, i forgot to mention that i really really enjoyed looking at those photos. the first one was my favorite, probably because of the variation in colors. that fluorescent handprint on the side of the bus!)

Thanks for the info - yes I think I remember that place - been a while since I went over to that side of Rosenberg. I may stop by today just to check it out... thanks for you comment on the shots too. Kind of creepy that there is a handprint on the bus. Perhaps from the school kids that did not make the final ride.... (spooky music in background)... LOL.

Wow, you just gave me a good idea. I live right next door to a impound yard. I've always hated the fact that there are ugly cars next door. But somtimes he gets tractors and heavy equipment in. All this time and never even thought about it.
Thanks! Your tractor picture is really cool!

Hey, a junkyard trip could be pretty cool, too! Especially if we can get the run of the place for a little while (legitimately, of course - - not interested in going over the fence...) -- I could see spending a few hours with the Bronica or the TLRs and maybe even some color film!

I welcome comments on any picture I post... Thanks.

I'm with you. This place I shot at was not large but had some good stuff - several tractors, a bus, mail truck and other odds and ends. I'm sure we can find larger ones. I'm heading to another one in Richmond, TX after work so if I get a chance to work on the pics I'll put some up.

I like that the back door on the school bus says "HELP." Hilarious!

Did we pass this last Sunday? Might have been more exciting than B.B.S.P. at High Noon.

Tell me those aren't marijuana plants growing next to the school bus.

So what sort of HDR software are you using? I've played around some with a couple of freeware packages. They're just kinda okay, I guess. I suspect my biggest problem has been lack of suitable photo material.

Michael,

Not sure about the plants but that may explain the lack of kids on the bus.

I'm using Photomatix Pro but most of them are fairly similar. Check this guy out if you already haven't:

http://www.stuckincustoms.com

Not only is his HDR stuff great - he has a good tutorial on there. You might try Dynamic HDR - also a good product. You can get a free trial. Google the name - can't remember the sit.

Post some when you get some....

I'm glad you found something you can enjoy, but I absolutely hate HDR photos. Sorry... but keep having fun with it!
