Question Who's been to St Louis, MO? I need some location tips. - 09-02-2009, 11:49 AM

I get to spend the day in St Louis sometime next week. My question is, where should I spend my time to get the "can't miss" photography places. I'm planning on a few Route 66 pic's, but other than that there's just too many cool things to photograph. I found this link http://www.explorestlouis.com/visito...gsOne.asp?pt=1 but that only made things worse seeing that I won't have enough time to do it all. So you tell me, where's the absolute best places to see in St Louis Missouri?

Arch
Zoo and museums in the Forest Park area
Ghetto life in East St. Louis
Something you won't see anyplace else - City Museum downtown StL
I mentioned in another thread - Crown Candy for lunch
River front and landing area
Courthouse and Cathedral

Skip Busch Gardens and Purina Farms unless you want to entertain a family

You can spend a whole day wandering around the river and downtown and not get bored.

Soulard is pretty awesome, some nice churches, some cool old architecture and tons or bars. Last time I was down there they were having drag races, which consisted of a bunch of men in drag running a foot race.

Thank you everyone for the tips. Looks like I have a lot of ground to cover in a 10 hour period. Out of everything that's been posted, I think I'm the most excited to see City Museum. That place looks crazy.

i've only been to the Hyatt Union Station, but it's beautiful IMO. It's where the famous "Dewey defeats Truman" photo was taken. It's not a functioning train station like you might think though. Some great architecture around there too. Busch stadium would be fun to photograph too. It's niiiiice.

Was there in July.

It definitely is crazy, but you won't believe how much so until you see it. The web info doesn't do it justice. The whole first and second floors are a maze of tunnels, tubes, and rebar things to climb. The entire place is made from locally recycled materials, and was built by an artist. It expands some every year. Wear crawling clothes and be prepared to explore!
