Man vs Wild - 09-02-2009, 06:37 PM

Just a shout out to all those who like the Big Bend area--On discovery tonight at 8PM "Bear Gryllis"(doubt that is his real name) will parachute into the Big Bend and set up survival in the rugged landscape. If you have trekked around that wild country as some of us have I believe you will enjoy the show.

Oh no. I don't get that channel.

Dang. This is the first time I have regretted dumping cable and satellite and all that garbage.

I love Big Bend!

We used to love his shows to watch as a family but lately they've been getting, ummm, shall we say....risque? It seems so many of them are showing him stripping all his clothes off to jump in a cold river, in the snow, whatever and the last one he only put on his upper clothes when he got out and was doing push-ups with his bare bottom (with barely a blur on his goods). Like, what was the point in only putting on part of your clothes to get warm?

VERY disappointed that his show seems to think that that's the way to up the ratings.

At least he's not climbing a fence...

I really... really... really don't like that dude... and so far he's reinforced that feeling... no doubt he's got skills... and they hired a really good pilot to drop him... one of the best... but lord... he's turned into a cowboy

sooo... all this time I've been conserving energy and the real way to negotiate a desert is on a dead run

And... if I look close enough I'll be able to find a GIANT frikkin piece of rope connected to a GIANT frikkin steel trap so I can use it to get off the top of a hill... walking down is just too ordinary...

Disorientated? or disoriented? Ahh... professional buzzard tracker... going to eat some maggots now no doubt. Nope... too rank... on to the rattlesnakes. Ugh...

Must not have been in Big Bend NP... you can't legally whack a rattlesnake in a national park... really doesn't make a lot of sense to whack one anyway...

The Chisos Basin has nice cabins. Marathon has the Gage Hotel. Alpine has a Hampton Inn. Terlingua has... ok scratch Terlingua

*snicker*

I actually despise Bear Grylls since the episode where he was thirsty, so he DRANK WATER OUT OF ANIMAL POOP. Really? REALLY?? That's a good way to get some awesome parasites. Somehow, I don't think that's the best way to get water if you need it. Especially when you're in a forest that probably has running water nearby. I think he's a hack.

If you want the real deal, watch Les Stroud. Doesn't walk around with a camera crew and stay in hotels.

Not me... He makes time in quiet solitude looks stupid... you don't run in the desert. You measure your steps carefully, always looking at where you are about to be. Big swimming pools of water are not common in the desert. Pack what you need. If you find it don't contaminate it with your stinking sweaty crackhead body jook. You don't jack with rattlesnakes and the simple truth is that he killed that snake for no reason. Big friggen bear traps aren't set in the middle of the desert and they don't use giant rope to tie it down.

That guy sucks... he's warping little kids ideas of what you do in the desert. Ya better have your poo in a pile if you want to survive even a casual encounter... it's not that hard though...

It was a good episode. Thanks for the head's up. Not one of my favorites of his, but a good one.

I don't care what your opinion of him is, but anyone who can gut a camel carcass and climb inside is the real deal. No matter how many camera guys are standing around.

It may not be the most practical what-to-do-if-you-are-lost-in-the-wilderness advice show, but its REALLY entertaining. Go Bear.
