Y'all have given me (and suzanne! LOL!) lots of help. I guess I wanted to repair this one only because I *chokes* haven't even finished paying this one off yet. Yeah, yeah...I know.

But, if I can get a new one, I might do that. All I do on it, really, is Internet stuff through wi-fi, blog, use Word for lesson plans, edit photos, and play music while doing it. I'm not a gamer or anything like that. I hardly create PowerPoints for work at home, but I do on occasion. I should probably just look into getting a new one with a better processor, a bigger hard drive, and a newer keyboard that actually HAS letters on it and a spacebar that doesn't have a hole rubbed in it from my thumbnail.

Replacement keyboards are cheap too, and easily swapped out while doing the motherboard. Just a thought.

Not everybody is a big fan of Best Buy, but I did notice their ad today has a Dell laptop with Windows 7 upgrade for $399.00...Not sure on the specs, but it could be worth a look-see...Ben

I fixed my FIL's power jack, It took about 30 minutes to get to the jack. in hind site, I should have hard wired the cable or created a external plug. My fix broke a few weeks later.

The whole design is set up to fail, the black power jack cube is held on buy 4-6 wimpy soilder joints and when the plug is in, and movement on it will break them.

You can buy a new MOBO, resolder on the old one, or pull the hard drive and get a new one.

Angie the Winters folks mentioned above repaired mine and it has been solid for well over a year. About 106 bucks including shipping.

I used to have a 2200, my wife used it for quite a while and then I shipped it to a friend who is now using it. I also happen to have one sitting right next to me @ work.

The power jack is soldered to the motherboard, and it's common for them to either crack the solder joint or crack the jack itself. Its also common for the charging cord to break (had to replace wifeys once). The keyboard is trivial to replace, and they're plentiful on eBay. If you know someone with basic soldering skills and can work a small screwdriver, these are easy to fix. The one I used to have I got free because it wouldn't charge and was filled with coffee, and I fixed it in about 20 minutes (cleaned motherboard, resoldered loose power jack, replaced keyboard).

I have found that Vic's Computer off of Westpark has handled most of my issues

BTW if you look for a new one compare prices on the Dell outlet web page, it can save you $150-$250.
