Well said Paco. I've had a few images lodge themselves in my memory too. Truly a great photo when they can do that, especially since we look at so many on a daily basis.

What's great about this photo, and I'm sure it's something you'd be hard pressed to see in the states, is that the men are so animated. The guy in the center and the guy on the bike are characters that really add to the feel.
I think this type of body language is common in certain cultures, and absent in others.

Paco, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate your work. There are many here who have great control of lighting. There are some who have great abilities with photoshop. There are some who have great abilities with composition. I enjoy them all and learn a great deal from them.

You are great at those things mentioned above, but there is more to your images than a simple portrait (glamour, nude, whatever kind). I always enjoy having the opportunity to take in your photographs.

Jeff, that was a very nice note you posted up there. Much appreciated!

Sam, I think there is truth in your comment about the body language - certainly true in Italy and Spain. My first wife was Italian American, born in NY, and she was fascinated by how much attention she got from men in Europe. I was lucky that she paid attention to my body language and ended up marrying me :-)

although it was found b4 I had a chance to search for it, it is the picture that I was thinking of. I recently saw the picture in a book or magazine someplace. I spend alot of my downtime when on the road in B&N or Borders, perusing thru the photo books, for inspiration.

I have a picture in my mind of following a cotton field or a cornfield for a season, from first plowing to the field burning, and the stages in between. I'd love to interview the farmer along the way, too, but have no clue where to start with questions to ask, etc.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, Paco.
Look around here in the next month or so out in the fields for the farmer that has a lot of tractors. Find out who he is, and what coffee shop he hangs out at, and then talk to him one day while he is having his coffee. Tell him what you are thinking that you would like to do, and give him a few of your ideas. Most of these guys have an extreme amount of pride in the life that they lead, and would love for someone to tell their story in pictures. All you have to do is start the conversation, and they will lead you to where you want to be... At least that has been my experience with the farmers around here.

Thank you. I will have to give this a try. Although I'm not a farmer and neither were my parents, I have a heart for the farmers. My grandparents were Irish-American sharecroppers in the mid-1900s, as were their parents before them. It was such a hard life. When it is good, it is great...but when it is bad, oh the misery. It touches every part of their lives, and ours, too, in a real sense.

Thank you!

How about this one...it is called "American Girl in Italy" from 1951. I don't know if it is a silver print or not...I don't see where it says one way or the other. But it is landscape format.

One girl and a zillion guys around her. OY! :)

I think this forum is a pretty cool place to be, too. I'm glad my friend pointed me in this direction. :)
