I need some help finding a classic B&W photograph - I have seen it a few times, but I don't remember the author or the title It's a black and white image in the style of Cartier-Bresson or Robert Doisneau that shows a pretty woman walking (in Rome, I think) with a few men looking at her with desire. Does anyone know this image?
Thanks!

If it was taken in Spring of 1968, I might have been one of the men... ...Ben

Suz, thanks for your kindness - this is a lovely picture! It's not the one I am looking for, which is a silver print, and landscape format. It seems to have been taken in the 50's not the 60's.
Thank YOU!

Thanks. I will keep looking. I love needle-in-a-haystack games. :) celticmama36 added 89 Minutes and 36 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below
How about this one...it is called "American Girl in Italy" from 1951. I don't know if it is a silver print or not...I don't see where it says one way or the other. But it is landscape format. http://www.orkinphoto.com/american_girl.php
One girl and a zillion guys around her. OY! :)

Suzanne, you found it! Thank you so much! What a great detective you are!
Much appreciated. texxter added 4 Minutes and 23 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below
BTW, a silver print is one made with the silver gelatine process, the way most B&W prints were made. Silver halide salts are suspended in gelatin and coated onto acetate film or fiber-based or resin coated paper and allowed to dry. texxter added 11 Minutes and 3 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

1. How the crap did you manage to find something like this that's so random?
2. Are you going to make us ask what you wanted it for?
(A simple "None of your business" will suffice)
3. Thanks for the photo-science-history lesson.

It is just something that I'm good at. Not meaning to sound cocky...just over the years I've learned various ways of phrasing things that generally eventually lead me to what I'm looking for.
It doesn't always work, sometimes the needle is buried just way too deep in the haystack. Sometimes it just takes a few minutes...other times it takes a few days. Sometimes, though very rarely, it takes a few years....like finding the long lost (to me) photos of my great-great grandparents online. These were photos that I'd never seen in real life and found while looking for info on my great-grandma and the women's right to vote movement.
For the most part, though, one word leads to another which leads to another and I find what I'm looking for. I'm a baby in regards to length of time online compared to many others. But, research is something that I've spent the last 13 years of my online life doing.
I really enjoy it. Other folks don't have the time to devote to it...I do.

I also meant to add -- what a delightful set of images and how great would it be to have a friend that wanted nothing more than to be the subject of your photographs -- in Italy no less! I am officially envious

Nevermind -- I'll take care of it myself!

3. Thanks for the photo-science-history lesson. | As to why I wanted the photo, I simply wanted to enjoy it. For me a good photo is one that lodges itself in your memory and stays there. In this case the photo stayed in my head, but I had lost all handles to retrieve it. Why did I want to see it again? Because I am interested in developing my ability to tell stories with my images.
Thank for the questions and comments! texxter added 8 Minutes and 23 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below
Yes, the story is half constructed and half real. A pretty woman getting this kind of attention was "normal" in Italy (or Spain, where I grew up) but the photographer seeded it, so it is not a true documentary photo. I love it, regardless.

| I am interested in learning how to do this, too, but am not really sure how to go about it.
I have a picture in my mind of following a cotton field or a cornfield for a season, from first plowing to the field burning, and the stages in between. I'd love to interview the farmer along the way, too, but have no clue where to start with questions to ask, etc.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with, Paco. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
