Good idea. I'll run this up the flagpole as a start...

I'm not sure how reading the TPF could hurt. It's not like you're going to read something and become a worse photographer. I'm reminded of Billy Madison:

Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

TPF has helped me a lot. I learn something from every thread, even the ones that can turn a little nasty. I have learned a lot about photography, technically, legally business wise and everything else. I have learned a lot about Texas. Even though I will be leaving for Maryland soon, I will still stay on the TPF as long as I am allowed.

Not to worry. For those who are absent from the state, Texas remains a state of mind. I can attest to this, after living most of my adult life (some 24 years) in California, then returning to Texas about 10 years ago. If I leave this state again -- which may happen someday -- I'll carry it with me wherever I go.

TPF has had a huge impact on my photography. I have some really good friends on here and appreciate everyone who has taught me to be a better photographer.
Now to make this hobby a business :)

I've transitioned from part time photographer to full time pro and studio owner since I joined in 2006. The connections I made with seasoned photographers, the get togethers at local watering holes with other TPF'ers and most particularly the incredibly generous pros willing to offer true "earned through direct experience" advice made TPF the most significantly useful resource for me during my transition late last year. I just don't get to log in as often recently as my time is spent building my business and brand - but I duck into the Business Section, Weddings Section and a few others as often as I can.

+1 for useful.

Permission to revise and extend my remarks?

I just realized last night that, if it wouldn't have been for a few folks I met through this forum, I'd still most likely be floundering about in the dark, when it comes to digitizing my film images.

Wayne (Venchka) and Wes (Wclavey) showed me how I could move into the world of the digital darkroom with the use of a good scanner and printer. That alone has made my discovery of TPF worthwhile.

I hope to participate in more future GTGs. The January Houston Film Crawl was a lot of fun. I wound up with some nice keepers from that outing.
