I love LightZone, have been using it for a couple of years now. Much more intuitive than Curves for making tonal manipulations. They try to market it as a full-blown graphics app to replace Photoshop, but it's really not. I only use the ZoneMapper and Relight tools; their sharpening and other tools are pretty weak compared to Photoshop.

The region masks take a bit of getting used to, but they can be very effective for seamlessly blending in local adjustments. For something I still prefer the brush-based approach in Photoshop though, it really just depends.

My biggest complaint with Lightzone is that it's written in Java. It's quite slow working on big files, and has some stability issues.
