AT&T customer service - 09-13-2009, 02:57 PM

I got home late last night from a wedding in Plano and found that my phone line was dead. NO DSL either of course.

I called customer service several times and their line seemed to be out of service, etc. (the phone company can't keep their lines in service either).

I finally got a rep. who said "the system is down for maintenance and at 6 am we'll put you in the list for repair." Sure, like that's going to happen.

This morning when I woke up (11am) I called and the recording said that indeed I was in the system and "they would do everything they could to restore my service by Wednesday at 7pm". Cell phone service at my house is sketchy (1.5 bars), and I am relegated to using my laptop at my office (Starbucks).

Good thing us photographers have been conditioned to have a back up for EVERYTHING !!!

Funny you should say that. I just got a call from sig other who said she called and left a message. I was sitting right here, but no ring. Picked up and yep there's a message.

At&T sucks big time.

If you did, we'd treat you with great respect and dignity. Just like we did with the Indians when we got here.

Captain Tom, at least AT&T understood you had service issues. Just after moving into my house some years back, I had an irrigation system put in. The guys cut the phone line so I called GTE (back then now Verizon) to let them know my line was cut. The customer rep actually asked me "If your line is cut, how are you calling?" Um, ever heard of a cell phone?

In my neck of the woods the cell towers are growing faster than trees. :)

At least she spoke english. The last few times we've had to call customer service, we get some remote call center in east Egypt and a 'representative' whom we can barely understand.

Just after I moved, It took ATT&T 3 weeks to tell me that they were unable to set up my DSL because "they ran out of copper", and it could be anywhere from 3 weeks until the end of the year for them to set it up. I ended up calling a different division of AT&T and they were able to install it, however I was required to get a phone line as well.

Charles, anything you can do in Dallas? I would drop AT&T in a heartbeat for a good deal. But Verizon was also "iffy". If you look online, they offer internet and cable(sat?) for about $40/mo, but I can't sign up with my address...however if I call them, they do service that address, but at $99/mo.

Don't let AT&T know you were ever in the military. I hear they don't like that.

Maybe all their repair people are being deployed to defend the country ?
Or, maybe they are all in grievance hearings with their bosses ?

It sucks. Our DLS service died every Sunday morning for about 3 months, and they would always have to come to the house to inspect our wiring (new house) 3 or 4 days later. The problem was always with a card in the box up the street, but CS would have none of that. Ended up hiring a secretary whose husband is the line tech responsible for our area. Problem solved.
