So us photographers are constantly complaining about how the new digital cameras make it easy for anyone to become a photographer..I received this ad from B and H...and had to laugh...DJ's must know how we feel!!

Own an iPod? Want to DJ? Now you can.
DJing has evolved considerably in the last 5 years, beginning with the transition in medium from analog to digital. As most every DJ will now tell you, digital media is far more portable than heavy crates of records and – perhaps most appealingly – is also notoriously more available and less expensive.

Funny, my CEO on our yearly trip overheard me say I had close to 5000 songs that I had converted from my CDs and quickly popped off "so you can DJ this event next year" DJing may not take as much "technical" talent as photography but you still have to work the "art form" to get people moving to the music. Obviously my answer was no

I try to never say no. I just put an unreasonable price tag on it. In this situation the price tag would be several thousand for rental of the sound system and a training trip to the School of Professional DJ in the Caribbean.

Man Don, sometimes I just need to think outside the box LOL!! I would have to hire a second shooter too because I would be busy being the DJ and not be able to shoot all of the events.

I know why Don is such a success, he has an amazing way of thinking about things.

Technology is putting everyone out of work. Things once believed to be the realm of "craftsmen" are being Walmarted into cheaper, cheaper, cheaper. Customer service is relegated to unknowns in some far away country because its cheaper. All our personal belongings are made somewhere that is cheaper than here. Between doing it cheaper and "good enough" mentalities, I will be amazed if there jobs left for anyone here.

if all you are is a technician, pushing buttons and such, then yes, you need to worry. But an artist will never be obsoleted.

+1
If your business model includes forging personal relationships and going the extra mile, you'll always land on your feet.
