Negative website about a company - 09-16-2009, 08:44 AM

I have a question about putting up a website to warn people about a company.

Can you buy a domain like "DontUseXyzRoofers.com" and tell people your horror story? You know, like post picture of the problems and tell how they responded.
I didn't know if using their name in the domain was legal or not. Is there anything that should be avoided if going that route?

This is all hypothetical of course....

sure, I dont think there is a rule about what domain you can buy. Go to a registrar and reserve the domain you want.

Its the internet after all.

However, that dosent protect you from litigation from the offending company, lol.

I wanna register kanyewestisatool.net, you in?

Ask the people over at www.walmartsucks.org or www.ups-sucks.net. There are probably some limitations on what you can say to avoid trouble.

I saw someone in my neighborhood do it about a pool company.
They even had the website on their car like advertising. By the time I looked at it the site said they worked it out with the pool company. So I never got to see the juicy details.

www.WeHateOurLagunaPool.com it is blanknow but you can do a lookup and call the website owners to see what happened.

Writing and recording a funny song about how these roofers broke your guitar and then getting a million hits on U-Tube is probably more effective. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Word of mouth can sometimes do the trick, then you don't have anything cached online that could haunt you later.

As long as you tell the truth, and don't add something that didn't happen, or slander the individuals I don't see why you can't publish whatever you want.
They could counter with the www.Jakeisableepingidiotforhatingus.com website.

there is no way in hell i would ever do that. you'll get sued faster than you can blink (whether what you post really happened or not). it'll depend on whether or not your roofers feels like suing you. if you think you got screwed, take them to small claims court. if you just want an outlet to warn other people file a complaint with the BBB.

I think there is one called kanyeisadouche.com

and I would go with angieslist.com they have commercials on tv, so I doubt you will get in trouble since they're hosting the site.

bestbuysucks.com or something like that was big whenever I used to work there.

There was a loophole because you had to agree to the terms before entering so that was a good enough plan to stop Best Buy lawyers.

I remember reading a bunch of stories, even some from our own store. I know Best Buy corporate monitored the site.

Not so worried about the getting sued part, more about losing if I was sued.
There is a legal way to do it, that's how bestbuysucks, ups-sucks, walmartsucks, etc can get away with it.

This is all hypothetical of course.
