Last week I bought a new Samsung LCD HDTV (The HDTV of the NFL)
So then I started thinking about upgrading my DVD player. So I looked around on the net and found just what I wanted on sale at Best Buy. I got a Samsung BD P1600 Blu-ray player for $199.99.
Here's where the "butt" comes in. I went and bought one and a copy of the new X-men movie went home opened the box and...IT HAD BEEN USED! All the paperwork was loose and the batteries were allready in the remote. I pluged the thing in and it did not work. Now I'm extreamly pissed off and called the manager and explained what happened and told him how unhappy I was. His responce was to tell me to bring it back.
I took it back and was given a "new" one and a profuse appoloigy. He also gave me an additional $30.00 off the price as a cash refund.
So I wound up with the player I wanted that was $279.99 on sale for $199.99 for $169.99. But you have to watch them they are sneeky little bastids.
The manager told me what had probably happened was someone brought it back and the clerk just resealed it without checking it, and that it should have been marked as an open box.
Oh and the X-Men movie looks...GREAT in Blu-Ray.

Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace look great too. Coraline si right up there with th ePixar movies, except it uses actual stop motion, which looked very cool. When I started buying BDs I said I was only going to buy action movies, etc, but now I buy only BDs unless you can only get the movie/show on DVD.

Blu-ray is the only way to watch a movie!
But be sure to turn off the "Auto motion plus" when watching movies if you have a 120hz Samsungs.

I've not been an early adopter of Blue Ray. Then again, I guess it's not early anymore. I've always adopted early on other formats and in what seems like no time they get outdated and replaced with something else. Technology...always changing. What's next?
The other problems is, I still have most of the old equipment that is still in working condition. VCR's (both formats) Laser disc with a library of movies then finally DVD with a huge library of movies. uggg

I still use my 5 disc DVD/CD player though. I have 300 or so DVDs, and am in no hurry to replace most of them. I just add new movie in BD form, unless I really liked the movie, like Blade Runner.

My inclination is to only get "special" movies in BD. The new Star Trek for instance. But I'm weak so...LOL. Who knows where this will lead. Oh, almost forgot to mention the sound quality. I actually turned it down in fear of waking the neighbors.

Blazing Saddles looks amazing in BD too.

It came with a stereo radio that I put out in the garage just in case I wanted to hear something besides myself making noise.
I know Blue Ray is the thing right now but I purchased an upscaling DVD player before they settled on Blue Ray and for most of the movies I like, I don't see how it would get a lot better. There's some movies I know you can tell a difference but they aren't on my top 10 list anyway.
How long do y'all think this BR will last before something else comes out to blow it away?
As far as audio goes, I could crank it up my Yamaha 5.1 w/ dts receiver half way and I'd probably have the police at my door for disturbing the peace.
