Does anyone know if the TSA allows...? - 09-21-2009, 09:07 PM

My kid is sick and we are flying tomorrow morning. I have 2 bottles of liquid medicine. One is prescription, one is over the counter. Can I bring that in with carry on? He needs it. I thought the prescription should be OK, but I was on the TSA website and cant find the exact info. It just says less than 3 oz. Any good googlers out there?

I think I found it - http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm

Does that include over the counter meds? They didnt say.

Sad to say, but more than likely it will be to the inspectors discretion. And they don't usually know what the law states. If it is over the counter, check one and carry-on another. If they throw that one out, at least you'll have a backup.

I've carried on a folding knife, a spent .45ACP casing (both by mistake, I missed them when I packed my carry-on), yet they took away a bottle of hand lotion. Never caught the knife nor the casing. Go figure. We can all continue to feel safe in the air.

Medications should be fine. You may want to bring the perscription.

Prescriptions are fine but over the counter can still be limited to 3ozs. Like said above it is up to the inspector and you just never know.

It's really up to the TSA, but when I traveled with my little girl, we had no problem with over the counter or prescribed syrups larger than 3 oz, as well as milk in 8 oz glass bottles.

What flight will you be on?
That's the last thing I'd want on my flight is a sick child spewing whatever it was all over a closed environment.
This sounds harsh, so I'll apologize beforehand.

Hair gel and Toothpaste made it around the US without fail.

Good luck and be prepared just in case. I had a friend who had her frigging insulin confiscated once. She is on a pump too, so it's not like she only needs it once in a while. she had to call her doc when she landed and get an emergancy Rx in the town she was staying. Of course she was allowed to bring that Rx on the return flight... *sigh*
