Office makeover: Before & After Images - 09-29-2009, 12:12 AM

Thanks SO much to everyone who gave me advice on this - It took a little over 2 weeks from start to finish. Total cost was about $650 for everything from the doors, flooring, paint, and additional 'stuff' that I had to buy... I had 2x4's and trim that I'd purchased previously... so that kept the cost pretty reasonable.

I installed the french doors, ripped out carpet, installed laminate floors, ripped out the baseboard, installed new baseboard, and painted.

I still have a few things to finish touching up... but I'm immensely proud of the results. My husband gets home tomorrow... and I can't wait for him to see it. ;-)

Before Images:

After Images:

This is the view into my office. The desk is a bit crowded because the computer onthe floor is waiting for Win 7... then the one on my desk will become a print server/media center... should happen shortly... I'm being patient... ;-)

Here is the french door I installed! I started with just the two doors off of Craigslist for $75.00 - and did everything else myself.

I have to caulk the baseboard (the blue stuff you see is the moisture barrier from under the flooring) but should have that done tomorrow afternoon... or shortly thereafter! ;-)

Impressed is an understatement. You should be very proud of your accomplishment! Looks great!

HA! That one isn't my computer... lol. It's my husbands....should say it 'was' my husbands. He's handed it over for me to use while he's gone. But I do have a Level 63 level Tauren Druid I haven't played in ages. ;-)

Wow - not the game. We want to install french doors and a transom above one of the entrances to my office, but there are two 7' wide openings to deal with; blackout curtains to the rescue for now.

Donna, did you install the laminate floor yourself? Where did you get the laminate? I have been scouting for good deals. I am impressed. :-)

Yup we did - actually - it was the one thing I had to walk away from, sleep on, and then start in the morning on. I was trying to be gentle with it... not knowing you basically had to pound the crap out of it to get it to 'click'... lol. The laminate install kit was priceless.

I got it at lumber liquidators - got it on sale $1.39/square foot - it came with the padding attached. I would have liked some of the $4/sq foot... lol... they had gorgeous flooring...

The flooring looks beautiful! I desperately want to do that in my living dining area but can't afford it yet. (It's gonna be like 650sq ft. bah!)

Amy - we are going to do the rest of the house - so I'm with you on the $$. The next area is the largest 'open' area in the house... so that'll be a pretty penny of investment...

haha! NO!

I have no desire to do it full time... I've always been taught you are just one bad decision away from being a drywall installer... Gotta keep up my skills!!

Sweet office! Great Job!
SO, what would you like to be called,
Mrs. Bob Villa
or
Mrs. Tim Allen
or
Mrs. Manual for manual labor?
