I am planning a shoot and I want smoke coming out of the barrel of the gun. I was thinking of cutting off a small piece of an incense stick, lighting it and sticking that in the barrel. My question, would that harm the barrel of my gun in any way? If it matters, I have a baby desert eagle 9mm. Thanks in advance. | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

If you stick anything down the barrel of your weapon minus your cleaning equipment you are a [EDITED BY MOD] idiot. I don't mean to sound rude but a pistol is not a toy and obstructing your barrel in any way is asking for loss of limb or life, so please don't do it, I dont want to see you pop up on the darwin awards...

I am asking more knowledgeable people if they think any damage would ensue from having a small piece of incense in the barrel. I suppose I could have asked if anyone had any other ideas on how to get smoke to come out of the barrel too.

Baby Eagle is a sweet gun and I wouldn't do it, but I am pretty particular about cleaning and protecting the finish on my guns.
It might depend on what finish you got. If an older model, it's probably the older finish that a lot of people don't think was very good. I don't really know much about it. But now it comes in titanium and a few other standard finishes and you can order it with a custom finish, so just about any finish is available. But, I don't know if the incense would have any harmful residue or not. It could have a slightly acidic residue which might damage the finish, but if you cleaned it immediately after your photoshoot, who knows?
I think what I would do is shoot the gun and then shoot some smoke with the same background and photoshop in the smoke.
Lots of tips on how to shoot smoke are out there.

Patti

The very minor heat from an incense stick will not harm a barrel at all. Clean well after.

I wouldn't think it would harm the bore but I can't be positive. Don't know if you want to have a coat of Hoppes #9 inside the bore as it may be flammable but you know you can call to one of the local gun shops and ask.
Granted rule #1, all guns are to be considered loaded, there's a safe way to have a photo 'shoot'. I mean, if not then all my gun magazines would be all text. Be safe and post your 'shots' if you can. I'd like to see them.
BTW, does your Baby Eagle jam much? I know 2 people who've had both the 9 and the .40 and they were jamomatics.

Just add smoke in post. It would probably look better anyway.

your other option is cigarette smoke.... take a drag and exhale into the barrel slowly the smoke will linger long enough for a pic

I would either add it in post OR put the incense on the outside, away from the camera. But unless you diffuse the smoke it will look fake.

An interesting idea.
If you don't want to do any damage to the gun then don't try the incense thing.
I agree with Jake that photoshopping would likely look better than the real thing.
(it would be real smoke, just added later).
p.s. My daily carry has become a PT111 9mm Millenium Pro .
