Ditto.

Prices have ALREADY gone up quite a bit over the summer. Just another reason I won't be buying any new equipment soon.

Maybe you don't plan on buying anything new soon, but everyone who has insurance on their gear needs to be aware of the new prices so they can update their policy to get the current replacement value. For some people, this is a difference of thousands of dollars per item. The Canon 400 2.8 L was selling for around 4999 at some places a few years ago and now its about 7100. Big difference for just 2-3 years.

This news is hardly a surprise since the dollar has plunged against the yen in recent weeks. Can't blame Canon for this.

Has anyone compared before and after to see what the markup was, at least on popular items? This should have a favorable impact on those selling used Canon gear.

There's always the used market, but even that may be affected if a seller wants to compare the current prices with an asking price that rises accordingly. I'd probably do the same thing if I were selling a lens.

At least I don't see the price increase for 135L. Hope I can save up enough money before the price goes up.

My very lightly used 300 f/4 IS went down a few dollars in the Buy and Sell... Anyone want to buy it now? :-)

When it comes to photo gear, the used market is usually heavily affected by the new market -- at least when it comes to current technology at any rate. Back when I was a dealer, I would price my used gear that was current technology based on current new prices, not on what it sold for originally. And so would all the other dealers I knew. And all the dealers in Shutterbug, etc.

So yes, I would expect the rise in prices to have a direct impact on used recent- or current-model EOS and EF gear.

Nikon stuck it to us several months ago. I'm about two weeks away from pulling the trigger on the 200-400 VR. This time last year it was $5199. Today it's $6299. That's insane.
