Talking Cardboard Boat Race - Photos - 10-01-2009, 03:50 PM

This thing was HILARIOUS!

I almost pee'd myself I was laughing so hard at some of the going on's...

Tori & her friend Olivia built a cool boat with the help of Olivia's engineer dad... but had a design flaw issue...

Notice the duck tape?

Tori jumps in, and promptly collapses the end of the boat... roflmao...

Even the teachers/headmaster participated!

But... at least the girls looked good in the water! ;-)

The titanic runs over another boat....

leaves them floundering...

before the boat comes apart...

They had a BLAST with this - The turn out was amazing... and it was a good fund raiser for the school. $50 per child, per team - minimum of 2 kids per team.

Parents, with a kid participating: $10 to attend
Parents, with no kid participating: $20 to attend
Students attending: $20 (got them out of class around 12:30 thru 3:30)

It was alot of fun and the girls are already planning for next year... ;-)

(key is large surface area on bottom. Note the boats that are more square, including the Titanic...)

That does look like a lot of fun, except removing the cardboard from the water.

They had one boat - that got so heavy - they couldn't get it OUT of the water - it was hilarious!

Nope! Apparently they did some kind of 'team building' event a couple years ago - and he had to build one of these boats... lol... Brad laughed his butt off as well at their boat... not in front of them of course... that'd just be mean. ;-)

I've seen a couple of races like this (there's one at Hurricane Harbor in Arlington that's a huge fundraiser for the River Legacies Foundation). The temptation is to make a craft that looks like a boat with a pointed bow, but there's no effective way to paddle it so that it matters. The box shape (as noted above) is the winner, as are well-taped seams and plenty of paint to slow the sogging of the cardboard.
