Can I get a lens anywhere in town? - 10-01-2009, 09:36 PM

I live in Katy, will travel to Houston/downtown if I have to. I have a 50mm and it broke and I would LOVE to get one this weekend, before a shoot that I have. I just moved to the area and know nothing!

Any recommendations?

I've only been there twice, once to buy something, then to return it because it was a lot more expensive than at B&H, but if you are in a pinch, you may try Houston Camera Exchange.

I just saw that, I will call them tomorrow. If not I'll just order it and maybe push back the shoot if necessary. Thank you!

f/1.8 or f/1.4?
I had the 50 f/1.4 and I loved it better than the 50 f/1.8, better built, better optics and better performance!

I would love to get the 1.4, I've heard great things about it... but it's more than I want to spend right now. So I'm pretty sure I'm going to go the 1.8 route.

the f/1.8 are running about $110 to $140, depends where you buy it....

there are two Canon 50 f/1.4 for sale for $300, which is a bit more but its worth the extra money if you can spare a few more dollars....

You might want to call the Wolf camera store at 99 and Bayhill next to the Krogers...I think they had a few lenses last time I was there....??

Also...what is wrong with the lens....did it actually break or is it just not working..??

There are 2 other Wolf stores worth calling:
Town & Country shopping center on Memorial Drive @ Beltway 8
Copperfield store on Highway 6

Good luck!

If you order, B&H is closed until October 12. Here's the notification from their website:

Succos Closing
Our SuperStore and offices will be closed from Friday, October 2 at 1:00PM EDT until Monday, October 12 at 9:00AM EDT in observance of the Succos Holiday. Orders placed today will be shipped when we reopen.

View our full Autumn Holiday Schedule
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patronage.

Adorama did not have a similar message on their website. I'm sure Wolf/Ritz camera is open as well.

I saw that about B&H - I can order from Amazon or Adorama, I was just trying to get it this weekend! I'm still waiting to call the Houston Camera Exchange. Wolf's doesn't carry Canon lens they said.
