I've been following this lady who blogs at the Chronicle website. She & her husband run the "Rescue Ranch" north of Houston. She takes in dogs that are found injured or have been mistreated and nurses them back to health (involving medical professionals when she has to). She works with several rescue groups.
You can tell from her blog that she doesn't have much money. Her husband was laid off some months back. He thought he found a contract gig for a while, but today when he tried to pick up his paycheck they told him the project was cancelled and they would put his check in the mail (right!).
She was raising money for her most recent patient (an Australian Shepherd whose eyeball was maliciously punctured) on a site called fundable.com that allowed her to request a set amount and people pledged towards it. No one would be charged until the pledge was met. The pledge was met by Chronicle readers and other supporters (great news, right?)... and THEN yesterday fundable.com went out of business. The pledgers weren't charged since the lady hadn't closed her account, but now she has no way to get that money unless the pledgers mail her checks! Then she found out the dog is anemic so she has to feed her a special diet to boost her iron for a couple of weeks before she can even have the surgery.
I just feel so bad for this lady. The bad news just keeps pouring in. I guess it could be a scam (I haven't personally checked into it), but her articles describing the animals are just amazing. Anyone else would be feeling sorry for themselves and worried about lack of employment, but these people just focus on nursing these poor animals back to health.
Check out her website! I have a very healthy Australian Shepherd and it just kills me to think about someone poking those beautful eyes just for amusement... what a piece of scum!
Web address is below. YOu can get there from the Chronicle blogs under Pets also. Her blog there is called RescueVolunteer.
