Thumbs up New Prop, So excited - 10-05-2009, 04:58 PM

I got a new prop for the studio last night, A claw foot tub. And the neat thing is, its out of some type molded plastic so it doesnt weigh but about 40 lbs. Now I just have to rig it to a pump to circulate water through the shower head I bought. This will NOT be in a bathroom, and will be portabe, so any idea on a pump or other props, backgrounds to use?

Nice acquisition. You might be able to rig up a pump from a water fountain since they already recirculate the water.

If you have something like a Hobby Lobby in your area, they should have fountain pumps, shoot I think Lowe's or Home Depot might even have them for water features in the yard.

Those damn pumps are not cheap.

We discussed a bilge pump ($20) but need a DC power source.
car battery and charger system $$

Harbor Freight sells small pumps you drive with a 1/4" shaft (ie. with a drill). They're cheap, and they move a decent amount of water at a decent pressure. They're kinda noisy, but the price is right and they're versatile. A couple 7 gal jugs of water, a couple clamps and a cordless drill, and you could shoot nearly anywhere.

I stopped by the studio tonight to check out the tub.
We moved it inside and placed it on the riser.
David decided to get in.

I'll leave the rest of the story to your imagination.
The image is a bit soft because it's hard to hold steady while laughing.

David,

For a pump suggestion - try an aquarium pump. A 1200 GPH (20 Gallons PER MINUTE) Mag Drive pump is easily found for under $200. They're made to operate either submurged or piped (PVC or flex tubing), and will run on a standard 120V recepticle. They're relatively quiet compared to some alternatives.

If it works for you, feel free to invite me to a shoot with the new prop - looks like fun!

Better up your liability coverage. I can just see someone flipping that tub backwards off the riser.

It almost looks like Tim the Tool Man Taylor is getting ready to race with that tub.

I want ya'll to know I have decieded this is a "special" tub. Want to capture that special suprise shot? That "priceless" moment? Just dont add the support to the back, and ask your model to lay back. She will lay back alright :)
