just wondering

I never have...
I'll be going to see U2 next week and im just dying to take my camera. Now I don't know what the camera policy is for this concert but im guessing as with most concerts it is probably no cameras allowed. I know I could probably sneak in my P&S camera, but its not a very good camera (compared to my 50D of course) and i would hate to have to live with crappy pics thereafter.

of course...i dont want to be thrown out...nor do i want it to be confiscated...so im not gonna take the risk...but i was wondering if anyone of yall ever have.

for U2 you'll likely need to credentialed and have a press pass to shoot the first three songs, then leave the premises.

Better to just enjoy the show, take a point and shoot and hope you get some decent shots from your seat.

I have not snuck a DSLR into a show, but I did carry one over my shoulder into a festival this summer that had announced only credential carrying photogs could have DSLR's. I didn't carry in the first day, but saw a bunch of DSLR's in the hands of normal ticket holders, so I asked a few what they did and they all said nobody at security cared or looked. So the next day I carried in and didn't even try to hide it.

I would say give yourself enough time to walk it back to the car and give it a shot. You never know.

We went to a concert last summer in a smallish venue in downtown Dallas that allowed FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY during the concert. You'd think that would make me, a photographer, happy. Instead, it was a nightmare. I left my camera at home because for me it was about the music. Half of the crowd either snapped pics with their cell phones or p&s cameras the entire time. Really annoying in a dark place.

If it were me going to see U2, I wouldn't even take my cell phone or a p&s. Enjoy the show!

I went to see Alkaline Trio a couple years ago at the Ridglea in Ft Worth and it was supposed to be no photography, but tons of people brought in cameras and were taking pictures and no one did anything about it.

In Jerry's World YOU WILL PROBABLY GET WANDED by Security so no way to sneak a DSLR in and since your seats are so far back from the stage (which I heard is at the center of Jerry's World) you would need at least a 300mm to get a decent crop shot so that makes it even harder to hide.

So take your P+S or Camera Phone and be happy with what you would capture or try taking a pinhole film rig that is pretty much all wood/plastic that the wands wouldn't catch and see what some long exposures would grab.

Or a G11, which I read about today in Digital Photo.

Another thought that if you insist on taking a camera, just take pics of whomever has the pleasure of accompanying you. More likely to get a keeper that way. "Hey, this is *so and so* at the concert. And that little dot in the background is Bono!"

Of course, you're not reading this. By now you're stuck in traffic on the way there!

Helps if I'd read where you were from! The concert is going on now in DFW at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium. Wish I was there ...

A friend of mine scored a press pass for the backstage meet & greet. He had to rub that in so I'm gonna pass on the luv.

Amen to that yesterday! Getting in was far easier than getting out. 45 minutes in the parking lot of Jerry World to exit. That was not fun. The concert, however, rocked. I did take my husband's G-9 - a few decent shots of the crowds and the giant spider/stage before hand. Just enjoy the show when it hits Houston!

I get to take my camera in legitimately, and I get paid to do it. UNless you want to walk back to your car when the security team finds it, don't bother taking a pro body and lens into a big venue.
