I know I saw one older but nice hotel in Taos that was asking under $60 a night then but in season prices would be a bit higher.

If you go into Alb and spend some time visit the Balloon Museum (you can even fly a simulator like your in a real balloon as a pilot), there is also a nuclear museum on the military base in town that is open to the public.

Sante Fe and Taos center city areas are very foot traffic friendly.

I believe that you are referring to the nuclear museum that Sandia National Labs used to have aboard Kirtland Air Force Base. They moved that a decade ago. I haven't visited it since it moved.
