Stay at San Antonio - 10-14-2009, 08:50 PM

Hey all, trying to plan a San Antonio getaway for our anniversary! Was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Crockett Hotel? If you have what are your thoughts of the place?

What are some other possible places to stay, nice some what romantic? What are some nice places to go for dinner and music, nothing to loud but someplace enjoyable!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hubby and I looked at the Emily Morgan Hotel
705 E Houston St, San Antonio, TX
(210) 225-5100
Here is just an idea of what one of their rooms look like.
VERY romantic!

They are a tad pricey but worth it
Prices: $129-$229 double; $159-$289 suite

They are this fancy buiding by the way

That's about a block away from The Alamo, too. I've seen it, often.

San Antonio has a haunted hotel, too, the Menger Hotel.

+1 for the Emily Morgan. Stayed there the day after Thanksgiving, 2005. Very nice. People and PET friendly. The kitchen has special pet menus for dogs and cats!

Having said that, I've always wanted to stay at the La Mansión del Rio. It used to be the place to stay in SA. Don't know if there are any reasons not to stay there these days. If it's not what it used to be, I'm sure someone will say so.

I also stayed at the Palacio del Rio at the end of December, 2004. It was nice too, but I now would prefer the Emily Morgan or La Mansión, I think.

No matter which one you choose, you want to be on the River Walk side of either the Palacio or La Mansión, or you want to be on the Alamo side of the Emily Morgan. It might cost a little more, but it's worth it.

Oh, don't forget your camera! If you've never been to the Alamo before, don't be disappointed. Yes, it's in the middle of downtown, but it was there first. Accept it for what it is - The Cradle of Texas Liberty. BTW, my daughter peed on The Cradle of Texas Liberty when she was about three months old. Kinda embarrassing, standing there a puddle, holding a kid who had just desecrated the Alamo! Luckily, we were outside the buildings, but still....

As long as you also understand that virtually no part of the Alamo is authentic. It's really a big tourist trap. It's a nice idea, though.

we stay at the Emily Morgan also, last stay was $89 a night. Thanks to priceline.

Here are the perks:
Dead smack in the middle of downtown
In/Out privileges for Valet
Rooms very comfy, down feather beds and comforters
Lots of places to go via walking.

You don't know how right you are! Today, she is a C&W Metalhead!!!

I didn't let her listen to him. Don't know how she ever fell into that hole.
