White wines 'bad for the teeth' - 10-21-2009, 09:37 AM

"Enjoying a glass of white wine on a frequent basis can damage the teeth, something many wine makers and tasters will know first-hand, experts say."

Full story....

Guess I'll just have to eat more fomage-chevre or Bosque Blue with my Cuvaison Chard.

Scientists now report that breathing air is lethal.

Tests have shown conclusively that all people who breathe air die.

I prefer red wine anyway. Never have found any whites that I really liked.

My current cellar count... 64 bottles of red, 1 bottle of white, 1 bottle of champagne. I think my teeth are safe

yes, read the article and no, am not a wine drinker. But I do a lot of root cause analysis and find this type of pseudo-science more and more common and alarming.

It is usually (and this has all the earmarks) a thinly veiled grant-request by press release.

"The world is ending! Give us money to study it more and we'll save the earth!"

Usually this is couched in terms of:
global warming
childhood diseases (mercury and autism comes to mind)
furry critters like polar bears

The fundamental point is: anything to excess is unhealthy, and to my previous point, enjoy all things in life with respect but most of all: enjoy life. It's the only one you get.

fwiw, I find excessive weblink-to-impress rather juvenile.

I'm safe. Only a couple of glasses per month with dinner at my favorite local seafood restaurant.

I can't stand the taste of wine... something I have not managed to acquire a liking of.

How many different wines have you sampled? Not all are the same. In fact, many are very different from one another.

Fish City Grill in Southlake. Gets five stars in my book for food, service, price, and atmosphere.

A bunch.

I'm a firm believer in the 'try something repeatedly' concept. It's the only reason I am now - beyond all comprehension - addicted to sushi.

I love it! If I'd stopped after the 2nd time I'd tried it... I'd miss out on stuff.

I've tried the expensive stuff... I've tried the cheap stuff.. actually... Boone's Farm, Strawberry Hill is pretty good... but I don't think that 'actually' qualifies as 'wine'.

There's something in the fermenting process that gives it a 'flat' taste to me... it's hard to explain while I'm sitting here drinking a Starbucks Pumpkin Latte... *grin*

If you like the sweeter stuff, try some Robert Mondavi Moscato - smallish bottle you can find at most places like Specs or even HEB. Pretty nice, we had some when we toured their winery a few years ago and then found it again a month ago at HEB when I was looking for something for our anniversary dinner :)
