Finally made a trip to the Big Apple this past weekend, the mecca of anyone who is into photography, the place of dreams, the city where you can buy anything you want (albeit for a price), the location of the holy grail of all things cameras.
We managed to work our way down to 34th Street via subway shortly after lunch on Friday, an experience itself for the uninitiated. Got off the train and worked our way towards the shrine, a place as mystical as the Vatican and heaven. As we walked the blocks, person after person walked by the other way carrying yellow Nikon (yeah, I know being a Canon guy) bags, all with an excited smile on their face and spring in their step. As we approached the infamous corner we began to see more and more of those bags passing by, telling us we were getting really close. Then the return entrance, and finally rounded the corner to the main entrance. I was walking in the clouds with visions of 200s, 300s, and 400s (all white by the way) dancing in my head, adrenaline coursing through my veins, and a story on my lips that I was sure would convince my wife to let me spend inordinate amounts of money on stuff I don't need.
Upon rounding the corner, what to my wonderous eyes did I see - security gates, locked doors, and a sign announcing closure for the sabbath for as long as the rest of my stay in the city.
Bummer. Should have read the store hours. |
