Y'all think you got it rough because your Super Whiz Bang Mk IVX doesn't focus fast enough? Can't live with a mere 5 FPS?

This is how it was done for decades.

On glass plates even.

Now Wayne, that's not fair. The super Whiz-Bang XVII at 15 fps is needed after all. And Film is just so 20th Century after all.

It's not about the shots they got, it's about the ones they didn't...

That's a phenomenal sports photo no matter when it was taken. Thanks for the post.

Granted they didn't have 1,000 frames an hour to choose from. The point is they knew where to be. They knew where to focus ahead of time. They got the shot.

Glad you liked it.

And to be honest, I've had unique chances to speak with some of the best sports shooters in the world this year and what you say is as true today as it was back then.

While I can't discount luck, more times than not, a pro sports shooter will "know" where the shot will be and they'll be there to get it.

And then there's just iconic...

I shot college basketball by standing under the basket with a twin lens reflex! Almost got slammed into the gym wall a few times, but I got the shots ...

All of which goes back to it ain't about the equipment.

On the downside, photographers are more restricted today in where they can be on/around the field of play.
