Norton AV 2010

This is a discussion on Norton AV 2010 within the Open Talk forums, part of the General Information category; I seem to recall reading that Symantec had decided to redo their AV. Anyone have experience with the newest version ...

I have the 2009 version, not up for renewal yet...but they put out a new AV every year....and I upgrade every year.

A great site for AV info is:

Don't forget you can get a decent security suite that you are already paying for from you ISP, have you checked with them?

2009 and 2010 are much better than previous versions.

I call BS on that av-comparatives report.

No way in hell is Symantec that good or efficient. It's a system resource hog and it gives many false positives (they take a blanket approach at detecting viruses).

Symantec & McAfee can't even pay me to put their products on my computer.

All you need is Avira + malwarebyte, cheap, works great, won't hog your computer resources.

I've been using AVG Free for the last 3 years and had no virus problems since then. The geeks I know swear by it, and swear at Norton and McAfee. Me, too.
Add Spybot and I have no problems with malware. Email, bad web sites, viruses, are no longer a problem for me.
AVG can be set to update and run on a schedule. Mine updates and scans nightly after midnight.
I've heard good things about Kazpersky but haven't used it.
If you can't run free versions in your business, there are commercial versions available.

You know the AV companies are the ones who make the viruses in the first place, right? It's called market security.

I had McAfee for 2 years and hated it. Before that I used Norton and they were okay.

I only use free versions now. AVIRA OR AVG nothing else. Even the biggest "computer geeks" know that its a waste of money to pay for AV when you can be diligent about your hardware/software. For the most part they use the free stuff as well.

If you think about it... a AV program has a few symptoms common with a virus it self. Takes up system resources, cpu cycles, memory and hard disk space. Constantly annoys you with messages and pop-ups if you don't pay up to get the 'pro' versions. Sometimes prevents me from installing or running legit programs :p

No viruses, no malware, no AV, nor having to worry about it... it's a nice feeling :)
