I waited a hundred years for the cameras I have today. I'm not a better photographer as a result. Be patient. Let the Bronica do it's thing. The Hasselblad is not a magic bullet.
The Co-Motion will be ridden. Soon.

Forgot to post a pic of my bike. It's a 1995 model GT Tempest (former) mountain bike. Now it's got Specialized Fatboy road slicks, seatpost rack, wireless computer and (the horror) the attachment for the kiddie bike trailer. It was used as a light-duty mountain bike for awhile, then a commuter, then a charity-ride bike and survived the Hotter N'Hell Hundred in 2007. I'm planning to tackle the HHH once again this year. Who's with me?

There is little discernible difference between the normal and telephoto lenses on Bronica and Hasselblad. The wide angle Bronica lenses do have some falloff. Of course, this is a generalization. Bronica has several different versions of cameras, and Hassy had some higher-end lenses. But Bronica is a good system.

i may be in for HHH. Been thinking about it for years. Witchita Falls is so far away though. I'm even thinking about doing ragbrai again...

If you've got the money to spend, there are several flat-bar road bikes that give you the upright position but the lightweight frame, fast wheels and your choice of gearing (from single-speed and up). For me, if I was going to buy a purpose-built commuter I'd be looking hard at the Breezers. They are heavy duty but roll very fast.
I don't think my bike would be up to RAGBRAI. More important, I don't know if I would!

As it is I'm going to have to get myself back into shape for the HHH. The year I did it, I rode in several longer-distance charity rides in addition to my own training. Problem now is I'll be booked many Saturdays this spring with work. Riding to a wedding prob. not an option ...

Plus working offshore, so that was only while i wasn't at work. but, it turns out to be the perfect combination of training for ragbrai--cycling and eating.

For Dennis....my commuter and rando bike. sub-optimum. small for my 6'2" self. but, better than leaving my poor bike cooped up in the garage.
A build I am in the middle of. Will be my commuter. List of to-do's:
*install fenders
*build back wheel
*new tires (schwalbe marathon +'s, 700x28)
*new chain
*hopefully get old brake cables through the new handlebars
*install headlamp
And I'm having another bike built by Circle A. Hopefully it will be rolling off the line later this month. Super low trail, long chainstays, S&S, ample room for some 32 or 35 tires with fenders. Something kind of like this. Sans internal cable routing and that paint scheme.
if interested, here is my cycling blog.

i will have to pick up a helmet this weekend sometime. 37 miles is a pretty good haul. not such a biggie in the morning, but would be a killer in the afternoon after work.
thoughts about my route. i ride down heights, hang a louie on dallas and head straight into downtown. the morning is completely safe, very few cars. maybe a dozen pass me the entire time. dallas st isn't as bad as i thought in the afternoon. the rd could use some work, but the traffic is minimal. besides, i'm faster than the city bus--it was left coughing in my extra CO2 from the aerobic work (nothing is perfect!). the most dangerous part of my ride is on waugh between dallas and washington. if i can get my bike geared correctly, i could cruise through a little better and have some more confidence. i estimate i top out at about 15mph on the cruiser. after washington, the ride is spacious and beautiful up to 16th st.
I had some issues with chain tension and the fixed gear yesterday, which resulted in multiple stops to put my chain back on. but, it's all fixed now!!

Moving the bike further from the background, using less DOF to blur the fence and weeds and adding a hot chic in a bikini would improve this image.

I ran downstairs to the garage and took a quick pic of my lastest project. Got this mid 70's Raleigh Sport free on craigslist. Had to overhaul it and take some steel wool to the rims and cranks, but I think it turned out pretty good. All original except tires, saddle, and cotter pins. Sorry about the background, I'm not about to take it out and do a real photo shoot today, just shot it where it sat. I'm going to use it for a "Tweed Ride" we've got coming up here on Feb. 27 during the handmade bike show. The Dapper Dan Dash / Shannon Tweed Ride
Oh yeah, for those of you that would be interested, the North American Handmade Bicycle Show will be in Austin this year, February 25-27. This is a national (actually now I'd say international) show that is a big deal among aficionados of custom bikes like your Rivendells. It's the first time it's been in this area of the country. tom, very nice. i wish i had the patience to shop on CL. looks like you got a nice shop going there as well.
i was thinking about heading out for the handmade bike show...but i'm not shopping for anything. if circle a was going to be there, i would probably stop by to say hi. last i looked, and if i remember correctly, rivendell/grant won't be there. Sachs will, but he won't make a bike for me anyway. either way, have a good time.
btw, i may be riding around austin this weekend for the pedernales double. i'm still on the fence...

Nice rides!
I haven't commuted in a while. I work real close to memorial park so we've been doing a lot of mountain biking on the trails at lunch. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
