Wished I could help by donating blood but alas, that whole living in Europe during the 80s, Mad Cow disease (Wow, that explains a lot about me!) scare keeps me from donating.
So, if you are like me, and can't donate blood products, please try to dig into your pockets, couch cushions, change cups and give a little back to the Fort Hood community. A list of charities which are directly helping the friends, families and victims of the tragedy can be found here...

And if you are in San Antonio, Operation Homefront is holding a canned food drive. And rather than try to paraphrase, I'll just cut and paste the information directly.
Operation Homefront has established a fund to provide emergency assistance for Fort Hood families and is holding a food drive to restock its pantry Saturday morning. The organization is asking for non-perishable food items and personal hygiene supplies.
Donations can be made to: Operation Homefront Texas 10157 IH 35 North, Suite A San Antonio, TX 78233
The food drive will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 211 North Loop 1604 East
