Exclamation Blood Donors Needed - See info below TEMPLE location. - 11-05-2009, 04:26 PM

Due to ongoing traumas, S&W needs blood! S&W has set up 2 blood mobiles in front of main hospital! All you donors, come donate!

No, S&W is not on lockdown, they are on a trauma alert for all staff. (Unfortunately radio is advertising a lockdown.)

If you are IN that area, and can donate, please go.

Ah, I hope they get what they need. I should really donate more, even though I'm not sure how helpful my blood type is (O+). I'm sure anything is probably appreciated.

I'm hoping to leave work early tomorrow to go donate. I have O+ and I'm sure they can use it.

I wish they'd have opened the Killeen S&W clinic for donations. Last night they had more donors than they could service in Temple. I suppose that means they didn't have the resources to send to Killeen anyway. On the news they were asking them to come back today, Friday.

O+ is the most common blood type. Although not a 'universal' donor, O+ donors are always needed.

I donated 8-months to a year ago. I hope that helps. I have a new tattoo, so I won't be able too for a while... :(

Having worked at the local blood bank for 5 yrs I can say that all blood types are usually in short supply. If you have a rare type you can be assured that there will be people who have your type that are in need. The percentages of donors and recipients is pretty close.
O- is the universal donor, but in certain instances it isn't advised for rare types.
If the specific type is available and matches, it is the preferred choice.

Just donate and feel that you've saved three lives with each donation.

I thought O+ was the universal donor...but then again I could never understand all of that stuff in biology.

Wished I could help by donating blood but alas, that whole living in Europe during the 80s, Mad Cow disease (Wow, that explains a lot about me!) scare keeps me from donating.

So, if you are like me, and can't donate blood products, please try to dig into your pockets, couch cushions, change cups and give a little back to the Fort Hood community. A list of charities which are directly helping the friends, families and victims of the tragedy can be found here...

http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/loc...shootings.html

And if you are in San Antonio, Operation Homefront is holding a canned food drive. And rather than try to paraphrase, I'll just cut and paste the information directly.

Operation Homefront has established a fund to provide emergency assistance for Fort Hood families and is holding a food drive to restock its pantry Saturday morning. The organization is asking for non-perishable food items and personal hygiene supplies.

Donations can be made to: Operation Homefront Texas 10157 IH 35 North, Suite A San Antonio, TX 78233

The food drive will be held Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 211 North Loop 1604 East

good thing you don't work at the blood bank.... :)

CaptainTom added 3 Minutes and 37 Seconds later...Double Post Merged Below

If you can't donate ( some of those restrictions have been lifted and you'd be advised to find out if you are eligible ) get someone else to donate who normally wouldn't. Win-Win.
