Was there an airshow around here? - 11-09-2009, 07:29 AM

This past weekend my son was playing in a baseball tournament in McKinney. During the second game on Saturday at around 2-3ish a flight of 5 Japanese Zero's (replicas) flow low over the fields. Yesterday when I was driving down 287 into Mansfield I saw a B-17 flying over. I don't think I time-warped back to the 40's so I'm guessing that there was an airshow around here that I didn't know about.

The Zero's would probably have been part of the Tora! Tora! Tora! act of the airshow....lots of dive-bombing and torpedo runs followed by gas-bag bombs producing lots of flame and black smoke.

There are some photos posted on the forum in other threads.

Unless some Northwest Airlines pilots were flying the zeros I doubt they were from the San Antonio Airshow.

Note the OP said he was in McKinney which is a bit north of Dallas, Texas, which for those cartologically challenged is a long way from San Antonio.

But don't they have more than one 'troup'? I imagine they do more than one airshow on any given day.

Yeah, I doubt they were from Randolph....even though they take off early, I doubt they hold a pattern north of Dallas before doing their show in San Antonio :)

The B-17G was "Aluminum Overcast". They were flying out of Arlington this past weekend. They sell rides to the public.

It was the Lost Squadron, which has been roaming the Pacific Theater, looking for US targets to attack. Because they were on a mission when the war ended, they never received word that hostilities had ceased. They stop for fuel once in a while. I ran into them at a Texaco in Fulshear.

Matt, you are seriously deluded my friend. The Lost Squadron landed on an uncharted island in the Pacific where they dug a huge underground complex that was only accessible by an interlocking door in the jungle.
They figured out how to lure unsuspecting airline passengers to their island so they could play tricks on them and using their Japanese cameras, make a video for YouTube.
I must admit that the recent events of the Northwest Airliner overshooting it's destination makes me wonder if they haven't extended their powers to the Minnesota area ?

Hope that clears things up for you.
