Laid Off This Morning - 11-12-2009, 12:08 PM

I had a great morning. I went in to the office and about the time I was logging in my manager came over and said she needed to talk to me privately. I knew today was going to be the day someone was going to get laid off but I never expected it to be me. I have 33 years with GTE/Verizon and I have mixed feelings right now. I think I may be happy but I do have until 12/11 to find another job within Verizon or take the money and run. One of my first thoughts was a new 400mm lens with part of my 35 weeks severence pay.

Wow. 33 years and "goodbye." Don't get me started.

I have a lightly used 400 f/5.6 that I'm looking to sell. If you decide to get one, we can meet up so you can have a look.

Rick, sorry to hear about you being laid off. Before you leave there, walk out with the rumored iPhone, i'll give you a hug for it. ;)

I'm on the wireline side so we don't get to play with the new toys.

Looks like another PHOTOGRAPHER is going to be doing weddings, or are you just going to try the sports route?

With 33 years you should have a decent vested pension to fall back on to keep the roof over your head, so good luck on the decision but also remember that the younger you are when you hit the door the more that you can physically do on your adventures.

BTW sorry to hear about the kick in the crotch.

Sorry to hear that, at least you will have something to fall back on. My fiance has been laid off twice in the last year and a half with nothing for us to live on, seems like it takes months to find anything during these times. Good Luck wish you well.

Verizon? Pension? I didn't know those words went together.

Sorry to here about the layoff. the 35 weeks severance seems reasonable though. hopefully you can find something within verizon first (if that's what you want).

Ug, I am so sorry. Went through that (with Verizon Online Services) with my husband last year. The only silver lining is Verizon has a good severance package. Good luck to you.

Sorry to hear that!

I quit my last full-time job for moral, ethical and sanity reasons. Still haven't found another full-time gig, but life is pretty good.
