What gives with them holding funds when a client has made a payment? PayPal said the incoming payment is under review and that its a safety feature. The review can take up to 24 hours before funds are released. So she paid, her funds are in limbo, and I dont get the payment until they are done. What gives?
I havent seen them do that before. I made it so my clients can book sessions online so they dont have to wait for me to call them back. Weve been so busy, it saved me a lot of time. I thought it would be easier.
If PayPal can do this when ever they want it kinda throws a wrench in things...
Anyone see this before? Think its a fluke or normal?

It's their "new" policy. They randomly hold money now in case there is a dispute. I thought it was just on ebay items but it looks like it is on anything paypal'd. On ebay they will hold the money up to 21 days.

Paypal says its only on high risk payments. What made it high risk? They dont say. The payment came from a confirmed and verified account. Im perplexed...

I think if the payment amount is higher than you typically receive, or higher than the customer typically sends, that could cause it to be flagged. Just like when atypical activity shows up on a credit card and fraud-detection kicks in.
The longer hold on eBay auctions is BS though. Between that and various other changes, eBay has made it so that seller is assuming pretty much all the risk and has no real recourse if something goes bad.

One of the MANY reasons NOT to use PayPal. They have all this in their Terms that you 'sign off' on when you make an account.
Just so you know, a lot of corportate and business cards have PayPal blocked and you cannot run that particular card. To riff with fraud and scams.

Jeff, I thought that might have been it. But this payment was for 1/3 of a payment I received last week.
I read the fine print...most holds are lifted in 24 hours, but they failed to say how long they can keep funds in limbo. Im glad the shoot isnt tomorrow. As far as I can tell, the client doesnt know funds are in limbo.

I use it to get paid each month, but don't get the funds from individuals.

I think it depends how they pay you, If they are paying with a credit card or with money already in their paypal account, everything goes smoothly. If they are having to draft the money out of your bank account into paypal to pay you there can be a delay. Sometimes by the time they get to transferring it the money is already gone. That has always been my guess anyway.

Is your account setup as a "business" account or a "personal" account?
