So, I have a lens on the way from Houston, which I was epecting today, and it looks like it was on time. I had been watching the "tracking" info all morning, when I saw this:

Detailed Results:

Undeliverable as Addressed, November 30, 2009, 8:50 am, AUSTIN, TX 78759
Arrival at Post Office, November 30, 2009, 2:27 am, AUSTIN, TX 78759
Processed through Sort Facility, November 29, 2009, 2:38 am, AUSTIN, TX 78710
Processed through Sort Facility, November 27, 2009, 9:36 pm, NORTH HOUSTON, TX 77315
Acceptance (APC), November 27, 2009, 1:35 pm, STAFFORD, TX 77477

Assuming the package was addressed as I sent in PM (I'm betting it was), there was no reason it couldn't be delivered. Fine, so I called about 10am, and after getting a busy signal upwards of 50 times, I get through. I am told it *should* still be there for me to come get. At my request, I am put on hold so she can make sure it's there before I leave work to go pick it up. After 20 minutes on hold, I hang up and call back, finally getting through. I am told that the lady that put me on hold went into a meeting, and they couldn't see what she found out. This lady looks and says it isn't there, and went out with the postman to try and deliver. Great! So I catch him down stairs around 1pm, and he doesn't have it, and hasn't seen it. Never went out with him. I call back. Now I am told that it's odd that it hit the same scanner at 2:xxAM, then 8:xxAM this morning. She can't find it, but will look and call me back. It's an hour later, no call, and no idea where my lens is... :(

I'm trying to wait to call back and inquire, but don't want to be pushy with my eleventybillionth call today. I would need to know in time to be able and get off early to go get it though... :(

It has happened to me ...
UPS tried to deliver my correctly labeled package to house next door
and running down the street dont help.
When they delivered the next day I asked why they attemped to deliver
to the wrong address which was not home ...
The guy in brown answered - We do make mistakes.
BX WAS ALSO OPENED.

Fed Ex is only a bit better.

Wow! I would have freaked out. I talked to them again, it isn't at their location, and she has no idea where it went... :(

As of 5 minutes ago, USPS called back and said (basically): "We have NO idea where this package is. The postman is here, and hasn't seen it, and it is not in this facility. Maybe the label fell off? We don't think so, but it's possible. We will talk to the overnight clerks in the morning and call you then..." OMG! "Frustrated" does not even start to explain it...

And the USPS wonders why they are not making money and then blaming it on e-mail, I think not.

I've had several packages/discs to clients show up a week late. I try to avoid usps for anything important.

Call and ask for contact info for your USPS representative (they are a few steps higher in the food chain than the post master) and if that doesn't work send an email to your congressmans office (this one actually works beleive it or not).

The USPS has always treated me very well. They even saved my neck when I had an ebay buyer say the package never arrived. I had gotten insurance, but I did not get delivery confirmation or anything, but USPS showed me the signature of the recipient allowing me to breath a heavy sigh of relief. I guess they automatically require a signature if insurance is over a certain amount.

That sucks about your lens though! I would be freaking out too! Waiting for a package is the worst

As in the case of the UPS guy going to a neighbor he may have been trying to make an indirect delivery and would have left a note saying that it was left with the neighbor (UPS used to make drivers make two contacts with neighbors for indirect deliveries in residential areas (even some apts) but now they have gone to driver release where they just leave it hidden on your porch (out of direct view) unless the package has signature required or you call in and will not allow driver release).

Right now I have a lens floating out there somewhere that Fed Ex said that they left on my porch, already have talked to the regular driver and he doesn;t remember delivering it so don't know what is going on (he had a delivery after the trace was put out for the box and he remembers two other packages that I had delivered that same week on one day). Guess I need to rattle Freds bell to figure out who supposedly left it. (hell even talked to the people the next block over since sometimes I get stuff for them and they get stuff for me though the streets are not anyway similar in name).

BTW EVERTHING gets tossed out the window for the next 4 weeks! I never get anything ( that can be damaged) shipped between thanksgiving and christmas since I know how it can be extremely mistreated over this time. SO MANY PART TIMERS TAKEN ON by ALL OF THE DELIVERY COMPANIES AND USPS that just want to get things out the door.

Good luck on the box, most likely the shipper has an invoice in the box with your address and if the outside label is damaged a clerk will open the package find that info and relabel the box for delivery.

As to the box mentioned being open above most likely it got scrunched in the system and popped open and somebody taped it back up and it may not have been a good retape. I bet there are over 3-5% of shipments that get some sort of retape out there on a daily basis, especially during PEAK season because people use the wrong size package for the items inside and don't pack them properly. Think about a dozen 80 + packages coming down a 20 ft slide right into your little box!! That is after it has ridden in a truck for 40 hours buried under 10 ft of boxes!

Had USPS tracking say a package was delivered three days before it actually arrived. The mailman couldn't explain why the tracking didn't match reality. I would expect delivery by the end of the week.

I just spoke to USPS again. Nancy said that she has spoken with the people that were there Monday Morning (2am) when my package came through, and no one knows what happened or where it is. So get this, she actually said that it's *possible* it is being returned to sender, but she doesn't know if that's the case. Then, later in the call, I refereed to the package as lost and inquired about the insurance, and she replies, "No sir, it isn't lost, it's being returned to the sender!" I told her that she doesn't know that, and told me not 2 minutes ago that there was nothing indicating that, to which she replied, "You will need to talk to my supervisor sir"... Yea, I talked to him, he has no idea, and said he left a voicemail for the person that actually sorted it, who isn't in today, and he will let me know when he speaks to her.

I pointed out that yesterday morning, when I first called and it couldn't be found, it was *NOT* in the bin for items returned to sender (that also had not gone out yet), which is why it was thought to be with the postman. I asked him why they thought it was returned to sender if it never made it to that box, no answer... I would bet it's lying behind a bin, or in a cabinet, or in a corner, but every time I suggest this, they either ignore me or change the subject.

This is really starting to get under my skin... :(
