"Help-Portrait" . . . A Worthy Cause - 12-01-2009, 10:20 PM

My church is teaming up with "Help Portrait" to do an amazing project for some wonderful families. For those who don’t know Help Portrait is a global event in which people are getting together to photograph those in need, in hopes of empowering them.

On December the 12th, Fellowship Church (Grapevine) is hosting a Christmas Party for the Safe Haven women and children; for two years now fellowship has been supporting this organization as they help repair families wrecked with physical and verbal abuse. This is a shelter that cannot even publish their address as most of these women have had to pick up in the middle of a night and sneak out with their kids in order to avoid violence or were sent to the shelter following a hospital stay because of the violence.

So, on Dec 12th, we are looking to provide quality family portraits for many families, and this is where you come in. Many of these women have never had the opportunity to have family pictures taken and this is an area when we as creatives can make families proud, happy, and beautiful again.

Never under estimate the power of a photograph, watch this video to see what I mean, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9tu1XrBn3A .

This is a huge opportunity to serve and we would love YOUR help to make sure it is a HUGE success!

We are looking to photographers to donate their time, equipment, and love but not only that but we are in need of assistants, makeup artist, designers who can Photoshop on the fly, and so on.

If you are interested in this event please let know, you can email me at: Shane (at) Digitalshane (dot) com

We would love to have some of help us help these women & kids have a Christmas to remember . . .

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!

I can shoot, but would be more comfortable as a photoshop-er/designer. Emailing now.

Wow, I wanted to say THANKS to everyone that has responded and/or sent me emails . . . this is an incredible chance to give back and let some that are less fortunate than us feel "special".

Here is some more info for those that want to know more about the cause: Help-Portrait

Our event will be held on December 12th from 8am to Noon at a location TBD (they are getting final numbers from the women's shelters and will adjust the location accordingly).

Thanks again for your support!

Did a portrait session for two single mom's and their children from our church this morning. Kudo's (and a huge thank you) to Jonathan Marks who owns his own studio up in Kingwood and offered it's use for today's shoot.

Thanks for the Kudos, Charles. It was my pleasure and I think that Help Portrait is a wonderful event and I wish that I could have helped in a larger way. I hope you got some great shots and your families were "over the top" happy!

I'm doing the same. I'll probably schedule two in-studio sessions, and perhaps one environmental portrait session (on a different Saturday) for some single moms at our church.
