The British newspaper, "The Telegraph," has a story about workers in an Irish town who are complaining that they are docked time from their timecard when they use the bathroom. Workers forced to clock in and out to use lavatory
The kicker to me is, my employer grants us 30 minutes of paid breaks a day. We have to clock out on break every time we leave our desks, even if it is just for a 3-minute restroom break. I sometimes have to clock out to rest my hands, as I suffer from tendinitis and arthritis. My supervisors have said that if I have to clock out more than my allotted 30 minute breaks, they will dock my pay. It does not matter that my doctor has written notes stating that I need to rest my hands.
My employer has decided to measure and record every minute of our day, and compare that to a computed value of time worked. So far, no word on exactly what the intention of this ratio is, but it appears to be justification for assigning us extra work from other departments (that is, my department is cross-trained to do the jobs of other departments, and we are given special projects, so that we can increase our ratio of computed time worked to total time at work).
And, no, we aren't given extra pay to compensate for this.

This reminds me of "The Office" episode, Business Ethics... http://www.recapist.com/2008/10/10/t...cs-episode-502
Meanwhile, Jim, clutching a stopwatch, is accounting for every second Dwight wastes in the office for personal matters (like a four-second yawn.) When Dwight confronts him, he attributes 17 seconds to "personal conversation."
Dwight hasn't stopped working for a second since Jim started watching his every move. He even sneezed with this eyes open and peed in a soda bottle under his desk while filling out expense reports. Keeping tabs on Dwight has taken up Jim's workday and he says "I'll probably have to go home early today."

It's this sort of action by management that will bring back the strength of the labor unions.

This is an old joke designed to trick dumb employees. The same basic idea used to be posted on a fake memo in break rooms all across the country. Some prankster would hang it up and then other employees would freak out thinking it was real. At least, I hope this one is a fake like the old ones...

I was in a very exclusive restaurant in Dallas last week.
I went to the mens room and there was a sign that said
"Employees must wash hands"
I was in there over an hour, and no employees ever showed up to wash my hands !!

It may be also going after smokers who take multiple breaks during the day to go outside to have a smoke or two and they just lump it into bathroom breaks since going after smokers specifically may be against the law there.

We have software for specifying how we are using our time at the moment. I once went to the doctor, but set myself to "Outbound Call." My supervisor warned me never to do that, again. They have kept a close eye on us, to ensure that we are correctly assigned. Also, if we take more than an average length of time on a phone call, we are supposed to send an e-mail explaining the reason; otherwise, it looks suspicious ("I'll assume you simply forgot to clock back into ready").

Reminds me of a supervisor that I had. To say that she had caused those she was in charge of a lot of stress is an understatement, including me. Her supervisory skills had started to cause me to have stomach problems. When she tried to write me up for too many trips to the can, I told her that it was because of stomach related problems I was experiencing. She then asked what the cause was. I quickly told her - "you". BTW, she managed to run off over half of the people she was in charge of.

I used to have to check out pens and pencils. If you wanted use of a stapler, you had to do the same.

its all about saving a penny. Being on the road all the time I am constantly picking up something to drink or nibble on while driving, very very seldom do they offer a sack for your purchases, you have to ask for them.... I figured it was just another cost cutting measure. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
