Has anyone sold to another country? - 12-07-2009, 11:52 AM

I've been published around the world, but only through syndication with a wire service. I was just contacted directly by a magazine in France that wants to by usage for a photo of mine, and I have never sold directly to someone in another country before.

Anyone know how the monetary difference (Franks or whatever vs USD) works? I can just ftp a photo file, so getting them a pic isn't a worry. It's getting paid in USD that has me confused...

just stipulate that you get paid in USD. happens all the time in my business. for instance, king of saudi arabia says, "you pay for half a barrel of oil in USD and the other half euros." will most likely need to give a bank account number. or if you take credit cards, you should be able to run the credit card in USD. don't get euros b/c the bank will charge you fees to exchange it.

an aside, the french franc died with the euro. there are only a couple of countries in europe that still have their currency - england, switzerland, hungry and maybe one or two more...

Actually. if you price your money in Euro, you stand to make 50% more due to the conversion rate.

They probable will write a check in english drawn from a europe bank. In US dollars. but based off your quote.

IE. Quote them 100Euro and your check will be 148 dollars US.

My last transaction was with a company in Turkey.
We tried PayPal but they couldn't make that work.
I ended up putting the image on a secure FTP site that was password protected.
They wired the money (in USD) to me via Western Union. NO cost to me and I went to Western Union, and picked up the cash... sent them the password and all was well.
