Question Multiple Hobby Management... - 12-10-2009, 11:22 AM

Do any of you have multiple hobbies? And not like running, biking, and playing basketball. I'm talking like major stuff.

I am such a busy body that I always have to be doing something... and I'm also probably severely A.D.D. but remain undiagnosed. Anyway, long story short, I really love photography, but I also really love raising ornamental exhibition poultry, and I also really love working with hot glass (bead making.) For the last few months, I've only been doing photography, but I'd like to start doing the others again as well.

How do you manage your own? Timewise and financially?

genealogy, i.e., family history...now days you can do a lot on-line at no cost and spend hours and hours searching and searching and searching...long time ago a little old lady said "you won't find'em until they're ready for you too"...that's proved out more than once...

Honey, we diagnosed that a long time ago! :) ( I don't have any room to talk here. Maybe it takes one to know one)

Good time management is always important. Decide how much time is needed (chickens) AND how much you want to devote to each. Then make a schedule and stick to it for 30 days, see how it is going and then adjust.

Now, you have some thing your could teach me!

Photography. It is also my full time job and my side job away from work.

Different types of photography spread me out and make me better overall.

Landscape and panoramic photography is a hobby. Sports is both a hobby and a job. Marketing photography is a full time job. Improving my photography in portraiture is both part of my job, and investing in the future of my business.

I do have a baby grand being delivered on Monday, so learning to play piano will become a new hobby.

Also, I like studying history. WWII and other conflict history are big on my list.

But photography is number one. You aren't going to be an expert in anything if you divide yourself among too many things.

My priorities:
1. Family
2. Photography/work
3. Bicycling
4. Kayaking
5. Travel
6. Fixing up my wooden boat (mostly dreaming about it)

Don't know about the chickens, but almost any interest can be combined – at least part of the time – with photography. In all six of the priorities I listed, a camera is a welcome part when I'm not busy enjoying the heart of my passions.

I find video games extremely boring and not mentally stimulating enough. They're also not very constructive.

Well yeah, but who wants to play a game about construction, I like the ones about destruction!

But in all seriousness, my job is extremely mentally exhausting(IT administrator). When I have time to relax, I like to let go and not have to think too hard.

Mustang, Jeep, Motorcycles, Photo, and occasionally AV/PS3. Not sure, but I may be forgetting something.

My car has been without major changes for a few years now. The Jeep just got a new lift about a year ago, which I am still doing the finishing touches on. The bike is paid for, and all the gear purchased, but it is very unlikely I will get another any time soon. Got new speakers a year or so ago, but they were closeout floor models, so it was get them then or never. PS3 is fun but my gaming time is way down.

Car is paid for and has been for a while now, Jeep I paid cash so it is paid for, and the bike has been paid off for a few years now.

Basically I have hobby ADD, but the midget, who is now 1 year old, overrules them all.

Yes, I have MHS (multiple hobby syndrome). No known cure. Not enough hours in the day/days in the week to enjoy them all.......photography, travel, skeet, golf, skiing, scuba, cycling, reading, needlepoint. I'm sure I could come up with many, many more.

I've got a few Hobbies, but luckily they fit together and can just about all be done together. In no particular order:

1) Photography
2) Travel
3) Eating at Mom&Pop places
4) Geocaching

I frequently combine all these in single trips.
