IBM PCjr - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I had a munificent 128k of RAM, ONE floppy drive (5.25"), a CGA card, and a monitor. I could play basic games, and run WordStar 1.0 on it.

I can't tell you the model number of the first one we had, but it was a Texas Instruments that used a black and white TV as a monitor. After that was an AppleII in the 4th grade followed by an IBM ps/2 that was the first I had with a mouse. It's been downhill since then.

Did you buy it from Sears? I remember when they were the IBM exclusive retailer...

A friend had a TRS-80 with cassete tape storage via a separate cassette player. I started learning on a Hewlett Packard time-share system around the same time.

My first computer was an Apple ][c. It featured 128k of RAM and a built in 5 1/4" floppy drive. I even had a "dual monitor" setup - a monochrome green screen, and a 13" color TV pugged into the RF modulator.

I taught myself to program on that computer. Started with BASIC, then assembler, and later C. That led to my career in software development...

I started out with a TI-99/4a.
256 bytes (... .25kb) of RAM and files were saved to an audio cassette recorder.

Later I had a major upgrade to an expansion chassis with a whopping 32Kb of RAM and single sided, single density 180kb disk drive. I was ready to rule the world!
