Thinking about switching all my bank accounts to Chase. - 12-21-2009, 03:21 PM

I've been with my credit union for 10+ years. There's only two locations in Houston and neither is close to us. There is a service center in front of our neighborhood (Houston Federal Credit Union), but we are limited to what we can do there with our checking, savings, and two business accounts.

I think it's time we consider other options and Chase is a strong candidate. We stopped into a Chase today and spoke with a rep. With a Chase Premier Checking account(s) all linked together with our business, there are no annual fees or minimum balances required. Sounds promising.

I'd like to hear from anyone that's used Chase. Horror stories, bad experiences, or anything else would be great.

Thanks,
-Sonny

Don't borrow money from it.

Wells Fargo is better as the big banks go.

Can you elaborate more on both comments?

No business accounts with Chase but have four personal accounts for all family members. No hidden fees and no complaints. Since buying out Washington Mutual, Chase is all over DFW like fireants.

I forget which bank I was with several years back...I liked it fine until Chase bought it out...Then they became cold and impersonal, nobody seemed to know me or want to do business with me...I switched to to Nation's Bank and liked them until BofA bought them, at which point they were cold and impersonal...

I am now with Compass Bank and have the best service i have ever gotten from a bank...Ben

Sonny -
I was at Chase for 5 or 6 years before switching to USAA....and it's like being in a bad relationship....you don't realize how bad it was until your away from it.

Unfortunately, you, meaning your checking account etc are not their preferred customer... the person they like is the one that comes in and requests the loan....at xx% interest...

They were a bank.... with okay service.... USAA is an AMAZINGLY different bank....and their customer service folks go way out of the way to help as much as they can. To give you an example, shortly after I had Sarah a couple years ago, HMFC (Hyundai) called to check the status of my car payment. I had paid it through USAA, but Hyundai had not recieved it. I called USAA, and expolained the situation, they looked up the information, THEY called Hyundai back, advised them of the address it was sent to, and let Hyundai know that if there was any 'late' fee, that they would pay it.

Compare that with Chase, when I called, they give me a response, and are gone....after I've entered 14 codes by the way..... end of discussion, no hanging around to talk to get the issue fixed... just adios!

If you have the USAA option, I would suggest them above any bank I've been with... Bank of America, Chase, etc.

Probably shouldn't since it involves client legal matters.

I like getting Continental miles with a debit card.

*shudder* Wells Fargo sucks. They have fees for charging fees, i swear.

Our mortgage is with Chase, and we like that okay. However, my husband's student loan was sold to them, and they screwed the account up three times, so that i finally just paid it off (would have rather put the money towards a higher interest account, but it was ridiculous).

We do our banking now with Capital One, and they've been great so far. Been with them almost 2 years.

Have my mortgage and other personal accounts at Chase. I've had no problems with them at all in the 7 years they have had my mortgage. We did a HELOC before the market fell apart last year to do so major home work and that was quick and easy as well. I like the convenience of so many branches in our area and I manage my accounts easily online.

I have two business accounts with Chase and love them. Much better than my BOA accounts that I had for a decade.

I was with Washington Mutual so now I'm with Chase. 2 biz accounts, 1 checking and 1 savings.
No issues so far. I like the fact that there is one on every corner here in the DFW area.

Been with Wells Fargo ever since they took over Allied, many years ago. Been looking for a reason to quit them, especially in light of the nice things Donna has written about USAA. Every dealing I have ever had with Wells Fargo has been excellent. I've even had a couple of instances when they/we messed up a couple of transactions, and I thought I'd never get any satisfaction and would have to change banks. Called customer service, and they admitted that we had "a failure to communicate," that they had messed up, and they took care of everything. They couldn't have been nicer or more pro-active. I also have a more or less "personal" banker at one of the local branches, who takes care of my other-than-normal banking needs. I'm not a big customer or anything. Just have a checking and savings account there.

Another thing I like about them is that their headquarters is on the left coast, so I can call customer service later in the evening, and I can process online transactions later in the evening. Don't know what the cutoff times are with other banks.

Sonny,

Check with your Credit Union and see if there are better options for you.

FWIW, I have been with the same Credit Union for 26yrs. When we moved from Dallas to Houston 11 yrs ago I thought it would be a hassle.

Its not. You can mail deposits, on line banking and call for loans.

Never a problem dealing with them.

If you go with Chase you'll wish you hadn't. I had no issues with Washington Mutual till they were bought out by Chase. It was downhill from there..
