The REAL "what I got for Christmas" thread - 12-29-2009, 10:24 AM

I know there is a similar thread title, but it's really about a beautiful baby being born. I don't want use overshadowing that joyous event with our materialistic blabbering, so I decided to start a new thread. I'll start with my score:

The big one was an antique - yet still able to shoot - 1895 Chilean Mauser in .308 caliber. It actually won't arrive until the first week of January, due to stock availability, but it was still a Christmas present. I can't wait to receive it!

What did you get that you are excited about?

A week here: St. Lucia Villa Rentals - La Bagatelle

My husband and I usually plan a trip in lieu of actual gifts - this one is Christmas, Valentine's and our 19th anniversary. We won't be going until Spring, but until then, I can look at the picture he put in a frame under the tree.

I also got the gorgeous Polar Obsession book by Paul Nicklen. Everyone in the family has enjoyed looking at it.

We cut way back on Christmas gifts this year and tried to do something for a family in need.

We arranged a session for the 3 daughters of our close church friends (he lost his job over a year ago and they've never had portraits taken of their girls). It was an awesome session and we created a custom folio and printed out 11x14 and 16x20 enlargements for them. The girls bought frames, put everything together, and gave their parents all the photos on Christmas morning. You can imagine the results!!!

So I didn't get that 5DmkII or 100mm/f2.8-IS on my list, but in the true spirit of Christmas I got SO much more by giving this...

You did GOOD Kevin and came out the winner on that portrait deal!

We ended up having to purchase a new washer and dryer so we flipped a coin and I got the washer while the wife got the dryer.
On the other hand, I generally buy what I want and she buys what she wants when we want it so the "what would you like for Christmas?" question at our house is sort of a moot point most years.

Nobody had any reason to buy me anything, so I found a really clean Canon 28-70mm F/2.8 "L" lens and one of the original Lensbabies and gave them to myself......Ben

I got a phone call from the hubs, a nice shirt for work and a necklace from my MIL, and a gift card from my Dad and Stepmom.

I made about 45 jars of BBQ sauce for coworkers and family and sicen both of my sisters are on hard times I got a lot of gifts for my neices and nephews.

I got my kids some cool toys. The main gift for my daughter was an electric kepyboard and instruction books so I can teach her, and for my son a Power Wheels F150.

I had Christmas Eve dinner with my friend and her kids and it was yummimicious since she and I both had crappy Thanksgiving meals and I got to have my very first white Christmas.

For myself I got an iphone as an anniversary/Christmas gift.

I couldnt ask for more.....well, I wouldn't argue if someone were to give me a Nikon D300 :)

I bought my wife:
1. Coach Purse
2. Tiffany Bracelet
3. New NIV Life Application Study Bible
4. Calphalon stuff
5. Victoria's Secret Lingerie

She bought me:
1. The Pelican 1620 divider set
2. Socks
3. Candy
4. A KU t-shirt
5. A long-sleeve shirt

But it's okay... I made up for it on my end. I bought myself (well, sort of... my business paid for everything):
1. Nikon 14-24mm
2. Nikon 70-200mm VR II
3. Nikon 24mm PC-E
4. Zeiss 105mm Makro Planar
5. Sigma 50mm f/1.4 HSM

I win... even though she thinks I got jipped.

An oldie but goodie. Way better than the current offering. Good on you!

I got Christmas with the kidlets. The best gift ever. Playing in the snow on a N.C. mountainside was a bonus.
